The Waste to Energy Engaged Scholarship Community Project Celebration aims to recognize and showcase the impactful work done in Obonjaneni through innovative sustainability solutions. This event serves as a platform to highlight the successful installation of a biodigester at the local school, which has replaced the costly LPG system, significantly reduced energy expenses while promoting clean energy alternatives.
Additionally, the project addressed a critical community need by drilling a borehole on the school's premises, ensuring consistent access to clean water for both the school and the wider community. This initiative has transformed daily life by providing reliable water access through taps installed in the schoolyard and outside the premises for community use.
The event seeks to bring UNISA management, stakeholders, and the general public together to celebrate this achievement, encourage continued support for community-driven sustainability projects, and inspire further action towards energy and water security in underserved areas. Through this gathering, the project’s impact will be acknowledged, and discussions on expanding similar initiatives to other communities will be fostered.
