Dr Perside Ndandu is a Research Fellow at UNISA in the School of Interdisciplinary Research and Graduate Studies, working under the mentorship of Professor Jessica Murray.
She holds a BA in Politics and History, and an MSc in Health and Healthcare History with distinction from the University of Strathclyde, funded by the Wellcome Trust.
Her doctoral research, also supported by the Wellcome Trust under the programme “SA–UK/MH: Medical Humanities Co-working between South Africa and the UK,” examined the ‘blood politics’ of colonial research on anaemias across Africa and the wider Indian Ocean Global South, analysing how imperial medical knowledge and nutritional campaigns shaped governance, labour regimes, and social hierarchies.
Her broad research interests include epidemics, blood diseases, and medical research in the Global South. She is eager to further engage in medical humanities and global health, contributing to comparative, interdisciplinary research.
