Ms Thandeka Mbambo

Ms Thandeka Mbambo leads coastal climate resilience and adaptation initiatives within the Oceans and Coasts Branch of the Department of Forestry, Fisheries and the Environment. With a strong background in climate policy, integrated coastal management and environmental governance, she plays a key role in advancing national efforts to protect vulnerable coastal communities from the growing impacts of climate change.
Passionate about climate justice and inclusive policy development, Ms Mbambo has contributed to key national initiatives, including leading the development of a Green Climate Fund (GCF) concept note aimed at enhancing coastal resilience.
She also participates actively in national policy dialogues, helping to ensure that policy is informed by the lived experiences of affected communities.
Currently pursuing a PhD in Environmental and Geographical Sciences at the University of Cape Town, she brings a unique blend of academic insight, technical expertise and community-centred advocacy to her work on climate and ocean governance.
