Darlene Ajeet Miller is Associate Professor at the TM-School (Unisa). She completed a doctorate in Sociology at Johns Hopkins University (Baltimore). She has held various senior research positions in South Africa (Human Sciences Research Council, PLAAS – Poverty, Land and Agrarian Studies), Paris (International Science Council) and New York (Human Rights Watch), and was the Director of the Institute for African Alternatives (IFAA, South Africa) as well as being Principal Investigator on various research projects (Sa in Africa, Red Tent, Green Leadership School). She has published a number of book chapters and journal articles. Her current research focuses on matrilineage, coloured identity and women's leadership, as well as the expansion of South African food multinational corporations in Africa.
