INTERNATIONALISATION AND PARTNERSHIP BULLETIN June 2023

This year, 2023, the University of South Africa (Unisa) is celebrating 150 years of service to South Africa, Africa and the
world at large. Unisa’s 150th anniversary presents an opportunity for reflection as well as celebration at the same time. It is a moment for the Unisa community to look back, to remind themselves of the founding values of the University, and the achievements of our students, staff and university partners, particularly in the last 100 years.

However, in all this time, our institution has never seen the kind of recognition and excitement that the Unisa community is currently experiencing. The University of South Africa is Africa's leading open distance learning institution, offering
internationally accredited qualifications. Unisa has offered many students from across South Africa, Africa and other parts
of the world, great study opportunities. The University boasts more than 370 000 enrolled students nationally and internationally.

At this historic juncture, the University could choose to rest on its laurels. Instead, it is forging ahead and breaking new grounds
with the aim of increasing its reach globally. Unisa’s 150th anniversary presents an opportunity to look to the future, to evaluate
the gains achieved in the previous years and look at the impact made in line with the University’s slogan, “Towards an African university shaping futures in the service of humanity”.

First bulletin will cover Unisa’s 150th anniversary activities organised by the Directorate: Internationalisation and Partnerships,
and it will further include other university’s 150th anniversary events and projects.
