US-Africa Forum on Nanotechnology Convergence

As part of the conference, we have arranged for visits to two special places close to the UNISA Science campus. Note that spaces are limited.

Soweto lies just 20 minutes south of the UNISA Science Campus. Our tour takes us to the famous Hektor Pieterson memorial and museum as well as the Mandela House, in Orlando East, Soweto. The fee covers the bus transport and admission to the museum and Mandela House.  Cost: R250 per person

 Cradle of Humankind

The Cradle of Humankind is a world heritage site 35 km from the UNISA campus. We have arranged a visit to both Maropeng, the world-famous fossil exhibition, and to the Sterkfontein caves. The price of the excursion includes a ticket to visit both, as well as the bus transport. Cost: R400 per person

Welcome home!

Welcome to Maropeng (the official visitor centre of the Cradle of Humankind) and the Sterkfontein Caves. Maropeng means “returning to the place of origin” in Setswana, the main indigenous language in this area of South Africa. The Cradle of Humankind World Heritage Site is an easy drive of about an hour from Johannesburg or Pretoria. Our ancestors have lived in this area for more than 3-million years. By coming here, you are coming to the birthplace of humanity. Welcome home!
