Files in Category:Georgia Guidestones[edit]

This work is copyrighted both as a sculpture and as a literary work. All of these images infringe on one copyright or the other. Most of them infringe on both. Although this could be solved by getting OTRS permission from the sculptor and the author of the text, the "designer" is anonymous, so that seems unlikely.

  • My apologies for the infringement, although I have a hard time believing it's an issue, considering there are photos of this monument all over the internet. I'm new to Wikipedia and being a contributor, so this is part of the learning curve, I guess. If they have to be deleted, then it is what it is. Do I perform the deletion myself or is that up to a webmaster? — Preceding unsigned comment added by KiltedEditor71 (talk • contribs) 21:28, 14 January 2014‎ (UTC)
No need to apologize -- the ins and outs of copyright law confused most of us at the start, and we're all still learning. I'm sorry that a new user is greeted by having most of his first uploads nominated for deletion -- I hope that will not discourage you from continuing here.
Unfortunately the Internet pretty much ignores copyright issues, particularly with respect to derivative works, so it sets a bad example. Commons is dedicated to being a repository of images that are truly free and available for any use.
An Administrator will close this discussion after seven days and take whatever action he or she thinks appropriate, guided by the community's comments. Symbol delete vote.svg Delete: Unfortunately they must be deleted. Because the images are derivative work without permission from the artist, I have moved one image File:Guidestones hdr.jpg to the enwiki and reduced the resolution to comply with the enwiki non-free policy. It is named as w:File:Georgia Guidestones-lowres.jpg and is used the infobox image to identify the monument. Ww2censor (talk) 08:53, 18 January 2014 (UTC)

Because this sculpture is still covered by copyright (it was installed in 1979, i.e after 1978), these photos are non-free derivative works of a work still protected by copyright, and unfortunately the U.S. has no freedom of panorama for public sculpture. See previous discussions at Commons:Deletion requests/Andrew J.Kurbiko's images of Georgia Guidestones, Commons:Deletion requests/File:Georgia Guidestones.jpg, and Commons:Deletion requests/File:Georgia Guidestones - tavola inglese - english table.jpg.
