The template automatically sets the following categories: Category:Files created by the United States Armed Forces with known IDs or one of its subcategories:

• Category:Files created by the United States Army with known IDs (9,368)
• Category:Files created by the United States Navy with known IDs (109,925)
• Category:Files created by the United States Air Force with known IDs (16,402)
• Category:Files created by the United States Marine Corps with known IDs (60,563)
• Category:Files created by the United States Coast Guard with known IDs (831)
• Category:Files created by the United States Department of Defense with known IDs (10,549)
• Category:Files created by the United States Department of State with known IDs (1)
• Category:Files created by the United States Department of Homeland Security with known IDs (481)

Where this would be undesirable, e.g. when presenting usage examples such as the one below, this categorization can be suppressed by including the optional parameter "category=" (with nothing after the equals sign).

Pages using this template with invalid or unrecognized parameters will be categorized in Category:Incorrect ID-USMil files.
