Direct link vs Search[edit]
@Huntster: Perhaps we should have this discussion here? I'm opposed to this changed because it significantly increases the time it takes to get to a correctly-entered image, and such images make up the majority of the template's use. What was once a seamless process now takes several seconds and mouse clicks to get to the correct image. I don't believe that's worth the (fairly rare) situation of an improperly-entered ID. - Jadebenn, while I understand that it may take one extra click to get to the destination (a minor inconvenience), the alternative is not getting there at all, which is a disservice to our end users 100% of the time. And while you may think it is a rare occurrence for this to be an issue, take note that NASA Images almost universally uses lowercase letters (except when it doesn't, in weird and inconsistent situations), whereas the vast majority of IDs entered on Commons up until recently have been fully capitalised, or mixed in some circumstances. - @Huntster: Would you be interested in soliciting a third opinion? I'll go along with whatever they say. Jadebenn (talk) 05:59, 1 May 2020 (UTC)
- Jadebenn, of course. We're here to discuss and present arguments. — Huntster (t @ c) 06:00, 1 May 2020 (UTC)

- Jadebenn, I think Huntster's version was an improvement. Direct link to the details page misses too often. Until NASA cleans up their website, we should go with the search page. --- C&C (Coffeeandcrumbs) 06:40, 1 May 2020 (UTC)
- It would avoid having to make edits like this: Special:Diff/370331492. --- C&C (Coffeeandcrumbs) 06:43, 1 May 2020 (UTC)
- @Coffeeandcrumbs, Huntster: Reverting to Hunter's edit. Jadebenn (talk) 07:13, 1 May 2020 (UTC)
- Coffeeandcrumbs, thank you for your input, and Jadebenn, thank you for having the discussion. — Huntster (t @ c) 13:36, 1 May 2020 (UTC)
