Using my images outside Wikipedia For a number of reasons, I can't be as active now on Commons as I was a few years earlier. However, I still receive regular messages on this talk page. I'm quite happy when I get positive feedback, especially when my images are used in an educational context, as it encourages me to keep adding images to Common. However, I fail at responding at every request sent to me. As most of the requests are similar, the following text should answer most of the questions I get over time. Licence I publish my pictures on Common under the Attribution-ShareAlike 3.0 Unported licence (aka : CC BY-SA 3.0). It means you can share, remix and make commercial use of my work under the following conditions : you need to attribute the work in the exact same way as I prescribe it, and you must publish the resulting work which includes my image, under the same licence. Licence Credit I require my work to be credited with all of the following elements : Martin St-Amant - Wikipedia - CC-BY-SA-3.0 in the immediate vicinity of the image. If you do not respect these conditions, you can't use my images. Usage respecting the licence As stated in the licence, as long as you respect the licence conditions, you do not need my permission before using my images, even for commercial applications. That being said, I always greatly appreciate when people have the courtesy of informing me about the usage they are making of my images by writing to me on this talk page, even more when they are sending web links, ISBN numbers, copies of the magazine/book, and/or a picture of a large print they made out of my pictures. As I will not communicate personal coordinates on this talk page, please use this to contact me by e-mail. Usage not respecting the licence If you would like to use my images without the licence restrictions, it has to be waived by me first. As I generally view my contribution on Commons as being for the common good, if you wish me to wave the licence restrictions, then I expect a contribution for the common good from your side as well. Waiver conditions will be on a case-by-case basis. |

Glacier Cave Photo[edit]
Hello, My daughter chose to do a report on glacier caves for her 5th grade class. She decided this after happening upon your photo of the glacier cave on Perito Moreno Glacier, in Los Glaciares National Park, southern Argentina. I ordered her a 5 x 7 print of your photo to use with her report to show her classmates an example of a glacier cave. I hope this is agreeable to you and thank you for being so generous in allowing your work to be used. Best Wishes, Amie
- The usage your daughter did with the picture exemplifies why I began to go pro bono with my pictures. Thanks for your comment. -S23678 (talk) 03:50, 16 April 2012 (UTC)

Hi Martin,

I have modified several of your photo into a "virtual reality" format[edit]
Greetings,
You have some fantastic photographs! I have created a website which modifies regular photos into "virtual reality" photos. So far, it features over 5,000 photographs. I have done this with several of your works. Each page lists your credit as you have requested: "MartinSt-Amant-Wikipedia-CC-BY-SA-3.0." This is posted in the page's URL address, title, and under the photo itself.
Each page also says: "Copyright Notice: The photo above can only be copied or used if you follow Martin St-Amant's specific copyright release instructions. Refer to the photo's title to find the original photo. Click Here to go to Martin St-Amant's main Wikimedia page."
The link goes to your Wikipedia page at: http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/User:S23678
I hope this meets with your approval. If you can find some use for these modifications of your work, please feel free to use them in any way you wish.
Best wishes,

Picture of the Year voting round 1 open[edit]
Dear Wikimedians,
Wikimedia Commons is happy to announce that the 2012 Picture of the Year competition is now open. We're interested in your opinion as to which images qualify to be the Picture of the Year for 2012. Voting is open to established Wikimedia users who meet the following criteria:
- Users must have an account, at any Wikimedia project, which was registered before Tue, 01 Jan 2013 00:00:00 +0000 [UTC].
- This user account must have more than 75 edits on any single Wikimedia project before Tue, 01 Jan 2013 00:00:00 +0000 [UTC]. Please check your account eligibility at the POTY 2012 Contest Eligibility tool.
- Users must vote with an account meeting the above requirements either on Commons or another SUL-related Wikimedia project (for other Wikimedia projects, the account must be attached to the user's Commons account through SUL).
Hundreds of images that have been rated Featured Pictures by the international Wikimedia Commons community in the past year are all entered in this competition. From professional animal and plant shots to breathtaking panoramas and skylines, restorations of historically relevant images, images portraying the world's best architecture, maps, emblems, diagrams created with the most modern technology, and impressive human portraits, Commons features pictures of all flavors.
For your convenience, we have sorted the images into topic categories. Two rounds of voting will be held: In the first round, you can vote for as many images as you like. The first round category winners and the top ten overall will then make it to the final. In the final round, when a limited number of images are left, you must decide on the one image that you want to become the Picture of the Year.
To see the candidate images just go to the POTY 2012 page on Wikimedia Commons
Wikimedia Commons celebrates our featured images of 2012 with this contest. Your votes decide the Picture of the Year, so remember to vote in the first round by January 30, 2013.
Thanks,

Il sera très intéressant nomination. Moi, j'aime l'autre.
Merci --S23678 (talk) 05:13, 4 April 2014 (UTC)
I think it would be better if we let this image go through the process. I will respect your choice in this matter.
- Je pense que ce serait mieux si nous laissons cette image passer par le processus. Je respecterai votre choix dans cette affaire. Bon chance. Saffron Blaze (talk)

The novel, SHADOW RUNNER, involves a 13 year old boy who is reluctantly entangled in a search to find the missing treasures buried deep in Machu Picchu. I thing your photo will make a terrific cover for the novel. I will include the following credit: Martin St-Amant/Wikimedia Commons/File:93 - Machu Picchu - Juin 2009 - edit.2.jpg/CC-BY-SA-3.0. Thank you for giving people like me the opportunity to use your amazing work. —Preceding unsigned comment was added by 2001:1970:46C5:A101:55BB:DF60:71F7:2F5 (talk) 18:48, 4 August 2018 (UTC)

Used your image for poem[edit]
I paired your image of Macchu Picchu with an image of my own of the Moon through trees. This was to illustrate a poem, an elegy for friends from Peru who lost their father to COVID today. —Preceding unsigned comment was added by 2601:4A:8104:7F00:4CD5:54FB:7AC:FD1A (talk) 19:01, 11 May 2020 (UTC) I gave appropriate credit as indicated on the Wiki Commons page, including your name, a link to the image on Wikimedia Commons and a link to the Creative Commons license.
