Anticipated delays in data allocation for November 2022

Dear Unisa Student

Unisa is anticipating a delay in providing student data for the month of November 2022. The delay is due to the prolonged and difficult contract negotiations between Unisa and the four Mobile Network Operators (MNOs): Telkom, Cell C, Vodacom and MTN. The contracts between Unisa and Telkom, Cell C and Vodacom are in the final stages and we hope that data will be provisioned by 1 November 2022.

Unisa and MTN, however, are still in negotiations and we expect a delay in provisioning the data on time. We do not expect the delay to be longer than a week. We urge students, especially those with MTN contracts, to ensure that you have adequate data before you proceed with your examinations.

Unisa apologises for the inconvenience this will cause students. We are working around the clock to resolve the data provisioning issues.

Please ensure that your cellphone number is correct on myUnisa so that you can benefit from the data for your examinations. To update your details, login to myUnisa, click on myAdmin / Student Admin / Biographical Details / Update Contact Detail. Students must do so by no later than 12:00 on Friday 28 October 2022 at which time the list of mobile numbers will be extracted to serve as a master reference for Mobile Network Operators to activate data.

Here are some of the reasons why some students are unable to receive data:

  • Students’ cell numbers are not on RICA
  • Multiple students sharing the same cell number
  • Students on data packages that are higher than the package Unisa is providing
  • Students providing incorrect and / or incomplete cell numbers
  • Students providing international cell numbers
  • Students not updating their numbers after SIM swap
