The WWF Youth Climate Champions Programme Opportunity

The WWF Youth Climate Champions Programme is a platform that seeks to capacitate, support, and facilitate collaboration amongst youth and youth organizations in South Africa addressing climate change. The YCC Programme is an initiative under the Climate Ambition to Accountability Project (CAAP) a partnership between WWF South Africa, South African Climate Action Network (SACAN), and Institute for Economic Justice (IEJ), co-funded by the European Union. Through sector-wide activities, guided-by youth, YCC shall enable partnerships amongst youth and youth organizations for the common cause of climate action. The outcome of this program shall be youth who are better positioned to influence and make material contributions toward South Africa's climate policy and processes.

As a part of the YCC programme initiative, WWF, along with our partner organizations, through CAAP will be hosting a climate bootcamp. This bootcamp will consist of an intensive two-week knowledge and capacity-building curriculum. The first week will be held virtually and will comprise preparatory activities and readings for the in-person bootcamp which will take place the following week. Participation in the bootcamp will be open to 25 young people who are between the ages of 18-30. Participants will be hosted at Cradle Moon, a venue near Johannesburg for 5-days and 4-night from the 3rd to the 7th of October 2022 (all accommodation, meals, and transport to the venue be provided).

The selection of participants will be based on an application process where interested participants are invited to apply by completing a form giving their details and motivation on why they should be selected. Focus will be given to participants from previously disadvantaged communities who have an interest in climate change, climate policy, climate activism, and/or may be interested in pursuing a career in climate change. The main outcome of the bootcamp will be to have a cohort of capacitated youth who will engage more with climate policy process and climate activism initiatives and to ensure the youth voices are heard.
