Unisa congratulates ACCA on its IRBA accreditation

Unisa congratulates the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) on its accreditation by the Independent Regulatory Board for Auditors (IRBA). This exciting news brings new opportunities for Unisa students as they articulate into different accounting and auditing professions.

The Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) is a global professional accounting body that offers the Chartered Certified Accountant qualification. Through its reputation for quality and excellence over 100 years, ACCA has built a network of around 542,000 members and students in almost 178 countries in the world. Its South Africa office is responsible for Namibia, Lesotho, Mozambique, Eswatini and Botswana. Its global footprint allows for the global mobility of its professionals.

Qualifications offered by Unisa’s College of Accounting Sciences (CAS) are accredited by five international and national accounting and auditing bodies with the intended purpose of providing relevant accounting skills in the market. Whether it's financial reporting, management accounting, audit and assurance, or taxation, Unisa remains committed to nurturing future accounting leaders who possess the skills and knowledge demanded by today's global market. Unisa is proud that two of its accounting programmes are accredited by ACCA. Unisa students pursuing the ACCA professional accounting route are now eligible to become registered auditors with IRBA upon completion of the ACCA professional examinations and the auditing development programme.

CAS leadership has met with its counterparts at ACCA to discuss, among others, strengthening relationships and collaborations between the two organisations, increasing pathways for accounting students and establishing credit transfer arrangements to ACCA programmes. Through collaborative efforts, Unisa students will have the opportunities to expand their horizons by broadening their perspectives and enriching their academic journey through professionalisation of their qualification with an international organisation.

As we move forward with this strategic partnership, we remain steadfast in our mission to inspire and educate the next generation of accounting professionals.
