The Gauteng Region Counselling Unit recently hosted a highly impactful Mental Wellness Workshop to equip students with the knowledge and tools to enhance their mental well-being. With a turnout of 677 attendees, the event was a resounding success, featuring insightful presentations from a diverse panel of experts.
The workshop's primary goal was to advise students on improving their mental wellness. By bringing together a diverse group of experts, the Gauteng Region Counselling Unit provided a comprehensive approach to mental health, addressing emotional, nutritional, and physical well-being. The workshop commenced with a warm welcome and introduction by Programme Director: Maifadi Relebogile. Maserame Dipale then took the stage to outline the day's purpose, setting a positive tone for the proceedings. The first speaker, Sidwaba Phezile, addressed the crucial topic of emotional wellness, providing students with strategies to manage their emotions effectively and maintain mental balance. Following her, a dietitian highlighted the importance of healthy eating, emphasising how nutrition directly impacts mental and physical health.
Apostle Mulea captivated the audience with a powerful talk on the importance of self-care and self-awareness. He stressed the need for students to prioritise their well-being and develop a deeper understanding of themselves. The final speaker, Dr Caroline Maluleka, provided essential health awareness information, focusing on cancer prevention and early detection. Her presentation was informative and empowering, leaving a lasting impression on the attendees.
Interactive engagement and positive feedback
One of the workshop's highlights was the active participation of students, who engaged in the chat box and participated in the question-and-answer sessions. This interaction created a dynamic and engaging environment, allowing students to voice their concerns and receive expert advice. Many students commented that the workshop was immensely valuable and well worth attending. The insightful and well-prepared presentations from the speakers were particularly praised, with attendees noting how the information provided would positively impact their lives.
The event concluded with a heartfelt vote of thanks by Kagiso Mekoa. He thanked the workshop organisers and esteemed guest speakers for their time and expertise, as well as the students for their enthusiastic participation. "We are deeply grateful to everyone who contributed to the success of this workshop. Your support and engagement have made this event truly memorable and impactful," Mekoa said.
