The Unisa Gauteng Region is celebrating the graduation of Dr Erin Marie Naude, Deputy Director in the Gauteng Region. Naude recently obtained a Doctor of Philosophy in Management Studies (Business Management) from Unisa's College of Economic and Management Sciences. She marks a significant milestone in her career, showcasing her unwavering commitment to academic excellence and professional development.
Naude began her PhD journey in 2019 under the guidance and support of her supervisor, Professor Paul Prinsloo. She says without his continuous support, she would not have been able to finish her studies. Her doctoral study focused on developing a comprehensive framework for implementing online learning in distance education. Her research not only enhances the understanding of the implementation of online learning in distance education in the Global South but also lays the foundation for Unisa's move into full online delivery.
The study identified key design elements, the different variables that played a role in the various implementation stages, the interdependencies between different functional areas, and the impact of the various decisions made during this process.
Gratitude and acknowledgements
Naude expresses deep gratitude to Unisa, specifically the Gauteng Region under the leadership of Moipone Masalesa. She says a group of colleagues continuously encouraged her not to lose focus. Moreover, Naude expresses her gratitude to her colleagues who maintained the academic and technological unit during her leave for research development and ensuring that all plans were carried out and closely monitored.
She also says her family and all those who supported her throughout her journey made valuable sacrifices. "I am incredibly grateful for the unwavering support and encouragement from my family, colleagues, study buddies Mosima Tefo and Louisa Maile, mentors and fellow deputy directors across the Unisa Regions. This achievement would not have been possible without their constant motivation," Naude says.
Recognition and future aspirations
On behalf of the Gauteng Region, Masalesa says: "Dr Naude's accomplishment is a source of immense pride for us all. Her dedication and hard work are truly inspiring, and we are confident she will continue to contribute significantly to our university's agenda. We are fortunate to have such a talented and dedicated individual on our team."
Looking ahead, Naude is eager to leverage her newfound knowledge and skills to further the university's goals and initiatives. She says: "I am excited about the future and look forward to contributing positively to our university's research agenda. This journey has been enriching, and I am committed to using what I have learned to make a meaningful difference." She concludes: "The journey was not without hurdles, but through it all, I persevered and emerged victorious. I hope my success inspires all, highlighting the power of determination and the importance of lifelong learning. I eagerly anticipate continuing to contribute to the Gauteng Region and beyond."
