Unisa Gauteng Region hosts productive career exhibition in accounting sciences

Recently, the Counselling and Career Development Unit of the Unisa Gauteng Region, in collaboration with the College of Accounting Sciences and the Directorate: Counselling and Career Development, hosted a successful career exhibition in the field of Accounting Sciences. The initiative aims to support students' career decision-making in a way that is aligned with the university's student employability programme.

The purpose of the exhibition was to provide the College of Accounting Sciences (CAS) students with the opportunity to connect with companies and receive expert advice on various possible careers, as well as potential internship and learnership opportunities in their field. The event featured representatives from leading accounting firms and industry professionals who shared their insights and experiences with the students. Students had the chance to engage in one-on-one conversations with the experts, ask questions about the industry, and gain a deeper understanding of their career paths. Workshops and presentations were held throughout the day, covering topics such as career planning, resume writing, interview skills, and the future of the accounting profession.

The exhibition was also a platform for networking, allowing students to build connections with potential employers and peers. The interaction was crucial for students preparing to enter the workforce, providing them with information and the confidence to pursue their career goals. This was the second year the exhibition was held, and the organisers have indicated that they plan to present the event annually.

Asked whether the event was beneficial, one student said: "The event was indeed helpful, as it allowed us to network and get more information on what to expect when we complete our studies."
