The Eastern Cape Region conferred 1 777 qualifications during its autumn graduation ceremonies that were held in East London from 18-19 May 2018.
Amongst the recipients was 37-year-old Yongama Ncebazakhe Mda who defied all odds and graduated with a B-Tech degree in Agricultural Management. Mda was born with a disability due to his left arm being completely paralysed and also suffers from a speech disorder that affects the way he speaks. He faced many challenges as a disabled student and one of them was not obtaining funding for his tertiary studies. He used his disability grant and also some of his mother’s pension fund to assist him to further his studies. He is currently looking for a job that is in line with his qualification.
Two regional National Student Representative Council (NSRC) members were also among the graduates. Mr Ludwe Mabandla graduated with an Honours Degree in Criminology, and Ms Yokoma Dliwako with a National Diploma in Law. They are the youngest NSRC members in the current structure.
