On 1 February 2024, under the School of Applied Accountancy, the College of Accounting Sciences (CAS) organised an online exam workshop to help postgraduate students prepare for their upcoming supplementary exams in February.
The workshop, lasting 90 minutes, focused on students who will be writing the Postgraduate Diploma in Accountancy (CTA 1) and the Postgraduate Diploma in Applied Accounting Sciences (CTA 2), commonly known as the Certificate in the Theory of Accounting.
Mary Pholo, the Director of the School of Applied Accountancy, stressed the importance of student success at Unisa, stating: "Your success is crucial to us. We are here to provide clarity and support to overcome any obstacles you may have regarding the exams." She continued: The CTA programme is a flagship initiative within the College of Accounting Sciences, contributing significantly to the chartered accounting profession in South Africa. Therefore, the college has put all measures [in place] to ensure students' success." The workshop aimed to equip postgraduate students with essential tools and strategies for a successful second exam attempt. It covered practical aspects like exam permits, books allowed in the exam venues and setting up proctoring tools on computers.
Pholo encouraged students to embrace the second attempt and give it their best. "I wish you the best. Remember, you can do this. Adopt this attitude: 'It always seems impossible until it is done,'" she stressed. The workshop aimed to empower students and enhance Unisa's standing in chartered accountancy.
