Eastern Cape RSRC embarks on a roadshow donating sanitary towels

 The Eastern Cape Regional Student Representative Council (RSRC), in collaboration with Unisa’s Eastern Cape Region, recently hosted the first leg of a sanitary towel donation roadshow aimed at supporting underprivileged schoolgirls.

The objective of the initiative was to make sanitary towels more accessible and address the issue of menstrual period challenges caused by poverty affecting girls in the Eastern Cape. The event was held on 11 July 2024 at Byletts High School and was attended by staff based in the East London Regional Hub, RSRC members, and schoolgirls from the school.

During the event, RSRC Education and Training Officer, Aseza Nteleza, announced that three schools in East London, Mthatha, and Gqeberha had been identified as recipients of the sanitary towels. Representatives from Student Counselling also emphasised the importance of menstrual health and hygiene and provided the girls from Byletts High School with valuable information.

The initiative received a positive response, with 470 sanitary towels collected and distributed to the girls from the high school. The success of the initiative was made possible by the support of staff members, students, and stakeholders, who generously contributed to the cause. Thank you to everyone who made this initiative a huge success.
