Monday motivation: Philani Ndlela talks studying at Unisa

_What did you study at Unisa?

When I started at Unisa, I was doing ND Information Technology.  Later I changed to the ND Marketing.  The last qualification I did at Unisa was the BCom Hons Business Management (specialising in marketing).  I also studied several programmes through the Centre for Business Management at Unisa such as Public Relations, Customer Relationship Marketing and Retail Management.

What did you like about studying at Unisa?

Low tuition cost.  Online administration tools for registrations, payments and general studying process.  Being able to study at my own time, my own space and my own pace.

What did you dislike about studying at Unisa?

Lack of contact classes in some of the modules.  Centralised contact sessions for post grad studies whereby one needs to travel to Pretoria for those classes. Overcrowding in regional centres

Why did you choose your particular field of study?

It became a natural choice once I realised the career which I wanted to pursue in life which at that time was to become a Marketing Executive/Manager. My current work role is not far off from my initial dream but it was through these studies that I was able to unearth my true potential.

How did your studies fit into your working hours?

It was convenient for most studies since I worked from 8am to 4.30pm and did not work weekends therefore I would use evening time and weekends for my studies.
