On 25 February 2025, staff and students witnessed the opening of the newly relocated Unisa Shop at the ORT Building, Unisa Main Campus. Furthermore, Senokoane said that the move is a fulfilment of the shop’s strategic and spatial aspirations to be able to serve its customers comprising students, staff, alumni, visitors and other stakeholders of the university.

Established in 2009, the shop’s services are available at the university’s various regional offices across the country, amplified by the establishment of the online shop in 2024 to enable the availability to the Unisa branded merchandise in a secure and seamless way.

Managed by the Unisa Foundation and Alumni Relations Directorate, the shop has in the past two years, transferred about R1 million per annum towards the Directorate Student Funding for students studying higher certificates at Unisa. “Higher certificates are not catered for by National Students Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) and other traditional donors and partners. The Unisa Shop fills this gap and over 340 students have benefited,” said Senokoane.

Senokoane stated that this launch, “means that we will continue to be able to make a meaningful impact in the lives of our students who depend wholly on the resources and opportunities created by the university.”

Frankie Mojapelo, Director: Unisa Foundation and Alumni Relations, commended the ideas toward the new location of the shop, stating: “This will enable our in style, timeless classics, and other modern merchandise in our collection to be more visible.”

Concluding, Mojapelo said that as the brand continues to grow in leaps and bounds, they are excited about the increased accessibility and visibility of the shop, while remaining committed to enhancing the customer experience to serve the university’s community even better.
