Unisa hosts psychology careers event in KZN

The Counselling and Career Development (CCD) Unit in the KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) Region, in collaboration with the Department of Psychology at Unisa, hosted the first online Careers in Psychology Event on Friday, 10 September 2021.

The purpose of the event was to share career information about the various fields in psychology practice. Speakers from various universities, regions and psychology fields, and the private sector, shared their career journeys, experiences and testimonies to motivate and inspire both undergraduate and postgraduate psychology students. The CCD Unit also invited Unisa alumni to share their stories of success and challenges they had experienced.

Approximately 246 students attended the online event. Their enthusiasm to learn more and appreciation for the event was evident from the positive feedback received and the questions posed in the online chat. It was also evident that a follow-up career information session would be needed. The programme evidently enhanced students’ understanding of the profession of psychology, the various career paths within the field and job opportunities, as well as providing them with much-needed career advice. The students reportedly found the programme insightful, informative and useful and they expressed their appreciation and gratitude for the speakers’ time and thought-provoking presentations, and for inspiring and motivating them to never give up.

The CCD Unit manager and staff extended their heartfelt gratitude and appreciation to all the presenters for their invaluable contributions and thanked them for the time they had sacrificed to share their career journeys with the students and provide much needed career information.
