The initiative aimed to bridge the gap between education and industry by creating opportunities for engagement between educational experts, community leaders, and college delegates. Attendees had the chance to explore how they could upskill through Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) and Work-Integrated Learning (WiL), which are essential for students needing practical experience to complete their qualifications.
In collaboration with the uThukela Municipality, Unisa invited local human resources managers, business owners, government departments, farmers, and other interested parties to participate in a special workshop. This workshop was designed to help them and their employees excel by translating their valuable experiences into recognised qualifications, enhancing personal and professional growth.
The workshop also highlighted the importance of fostering an environment of continuous learning and development. By providing practical experience opportunities to students within the uThukela Municipality, participants contributed to developing skilled professionals ready to meet the needs of various industries.
This partnership underscores Unisa KwaZulu-Natal Region's commitment to supporting local communities in rural areas by equipping individuals with the tools and knowledge needed to succeed in today’s dynamic job market. The collaboration with uThukela District Municipality promotes education and plays a crucial role in fostering economic growth and development within the region.
The initiatives had a lasting impact on participants, laying the foundation for ongoing collaboration and the continued development of skills and knowledge in the uThukela Municipality.
The participation of various Unisa colleges in these regional activities was invaluable and greatly appreciated. Their dedication to supporting our mission was evident as they navigated challenging circumstances and travelled vast distances to ensure the success of the sessions.
The spirit of the team, working tirelessly under challenging conditions, truly reflected their commitment to our students and communities in rural areas.
