A category redirect question
[edit]Hello again. My question relates to this edit. I'm puzzled. Category:Maps of countries visited by Belgian politicians was speedy deleted in 2024, apparently because it was not considered useful to keep as a redirect. So why is the misspelled Category:Maps of countries visited by Belgian politicans necessary to keep? --R'n'B (talk) 14:23, 26 April 2025 (UTC)
- @R'n'B: I was probably strictly applying the definition of the speedy deletion option G2. That option specifies two things, and the page needs to meet only one of them. The first is "unused and implausible". I don't think it's implausible, because people may very well misspell things. The second option is that the redirect is broken. It was broken, true, but I try to fix broken redirects when possible.
- That being said, if you really think it's not worth keeping, I'll delete it anyway. -- Auntof6 (talk) 17:32, 26 April 2025 (UTC)
- I really was just asking. I edit mostly on enwiki, not here, so I don't want to run afoul of Commons consensus inadvertently. On enwiki, when a category is moved, it is common to leave the old title as a redirect to the new one, but that doesn't seem to be a consistent practice here. Many times a category is moved without leaving a redirect, or the redirect is deleted after the move. So I was trying to understand why some redirects are kept and others are not. --R'n'B (talk) 16:18, 27 April 2025 (UTC)
Renaming
[edit]THank you for your help i.e. here! Don't you know (can you suggest) what template should i use to request an i.e. that revision's comment deletion or revision deletion at all with reason of not listed here (i.e. containing COM:ADVERT that was later blurred that i.e. was suggested as deletion alternative [but still never done, however who knows the future when such revdel will still be needed instead of opening the new deletion nomination])? 201.150.118.26 05:57, 1 May 2025 (UTC)
- Let me make sure I understand what you're asking. Are you asking how to remove the contact information from that file's description, and revdel it? If that's what you're asking, that might be handled by oversight. There's no template for that, you would send email to the email address on the page I just linked.
- If that's not what you were asking, please explain further. -- Auntof6 (talk) 07:22, 1 May 2025 (UTC)
- Sorry for the confusion - I wanted to make the sentence sound both brief and complete. No, no, it's not that bad - there's no personal information of mine there. I'm just advocating for the COM:ADVERT requirements to be followed everywhere, including comments (especially those tied to image changes that show up in the file history section) and the images themselves (with those in the history that violate the aforementioned rule and are still present in the file history section even when such violation meant to be removed at further file versions [i.e. by advertisement being later blurred]), and am looking for a way to achieve this without being an editor with additional privileges.201.150.118.26 07:39, 1 May 2025 (UTC)
- So can you suggest something about how can I request:
- revision comment deletion/hide
- revision itself (including ones when some image version was uploaded) deletion/hide
- ? 201.150.118.26 20:37, 2 May 2025 (UTC)
The category is not empty anymore, I’ve found one file for it. Would you undelete it, please? I suppose, there were Category:Atocha train station and Category:Buildings by Rafael Moneo (I don’t know, if the extension is seen as a building or not, it’s just an extension, but Category:Extension of Museo del Prado is in the buildings category) or just Category:Rafael Moneo on the page. Thank you. —176.1.13.55 18:34, 21 May 2025 (UTC)
Done -- Auntof6 (talk) 18:36, 21 May 2025 (UTC)
- You are so fast. :-) I wouldn’t have found the other categories.
- And if there is FOP in Spain for interior building extensions (the architect of this is still living), I don’t know at all. Someone else can check this, these things are a bit complicated. If the photo will be deleted some day, the category also will. It seems to be the only photo of this, I didn’t found others. —176.1.11.160 19:44, 21 May 2025 (UTC)
Could you restore the category? Trade (talk) 13:35, 27 May 2025 (UTC)
- And Category:Cosplay of Reaper with Hellfire Shotguns and Category:Cosplay of Ayane (Dead or Alive) with red eyes--Trade (talk) 13:38, 27 May 2025 (UTC)
- The only reason the categories were empty was because they were unconsensually emptied by another user without any discussion beforehand. According to Commons:Criteria_for_speedy_deletion#C2 this excludes the category from being speedy deleted as C2--Trade (talk) 14:02, 27 May 2025 (UTC)
- I've been rather routinely cleaning up and reorganizing the categories through the video game end as they're often inconsistent or microniche, such as nestled "Cosplay of [Character] in [Country]". All three of those were very small categories compartmentalizing already small parents, and as I explained on your talk page Trade, make those harder to read and navigate.--Kung Fu Man (talk) 14:23, 27 May 2025 (UTC)
- Were the categories in use or were they not before you marked them for speedy deletion with C2 which is reserved only for empty categories
- This is a simple yes or no question. Trade (talk) 14:33, 27 May 2025 (UTC)
- @Kung Fu Man: That may be, but it should probably be discussed and consensus obtained. That doesn't appear to have been done, so I have restored. Please repopulate them. Thanks. -- Auntof6 (talk) 14:37, 27 May 2025 (UTC)
- While I understand consensus is important, Trade's created a whole slew of microcategories: there's not even a proper hub to open a discussion outside of perhaps a mass deletion one. We're talking about examples such as "Cosplay of Jubilee and Akuma", which is populated by one whole image.
- Be bold should still apply to commons, shouldn't it?--Kung Fu Man (talk) 14:45, 27 May 2025 (UTC)
- @Kung Fu Man: Commons deliberately does not have a "be bold" policy. See the last item under Commons:For Wikipedians#Cultural differences.
- The place to discuss things like this is at COM:CFD. If there are multiple categories with the same issue, you can group them into one discussion. -- Auntof6 (talk) 19:21, 27 May 2025 (UTC)

Could you try and conclude these category discussions?

Trade (talk) 18:47, 27 May 2025 (UTC)
- @Trade: I'll try, but I already have one I was asked to do quite a while ago that I haven't gotten to.
- The last one you list doesn't exist. Did you mean Commons:Categories for discussion/2025/05/Category:Films by actor? -- Auntof6 (talk) 19:28, 27 May 2025 (UTC)
- Pretty much Trade (talk) 19:36, 27 May 2025 (UTC)
- Should i merge Commons:Categories for discussion/2025/02/Category:Male actors by production and Commons:Categories for discussion/2025/05/Category:Scooby-Doo actors? Trade (talk) 03:38, 28 May 2025 (UTC)
- @Trade: No, if they're already out there as separate requests, leave them separate. That's especially true since one of them was created a few months ago, and the other one is new. People who read the older one might not know that things had been combined, and they might have had something to say about the ones they didn't see before. -- Auntof6 (talk) 06:16, 28 May 2025 (UTC)
