The Three Minute Thesis Competition (3MT) is a research communication competition developed by the University of Queensland in Australia, during which doctoral students present their research in three minutes. The College of Graduate Studies (CGS) oversaw Unisa’s participation in the 3MT, involving more than 900 universities worldwide.
Participation in the 3MT fosters academic development and presentation and research communication skills while developing the candidates’ ability to present and explain their research effectively in language appropriate to a non-specialist audience. In addition, the 3MT provides an opportunity to network with other researchers. The 3MT winners represent their university nationally and possibly internationally, offering valuable networking and professional development opportunities.
While Unisa students did not make it to the next level of the competition, CGS congratulates Chricencia Makanyara Murape (winner) from the College of Economic and Management Sciences, Baaba Mirekuah Bonuedie (first runner-up) from the College of Human Sciences and Yeshimebet Ali Dawed (second runner-up), also from the College of Human Sciences.
CGS looks forward to a more vibrant 3MT in 2023 and to growing the pool of doctoral students trained in presenting their research and its significance in three minutes.
