Prof Nithya Palaniyandy
Professor Nithyadharseni Palaniyandy from the Institute for Catalysis and Energy Solutions (ICES) at CSET, who has been selected as a Battery Ambassador to represent South Africa for the second time, by the Faraday Institution in the United Kingdom (UK). The Faraday Institution is the UK’s independent institute for electrochemical energy storage research, skills development, market analysis, and early-stage commercialization.
In 2024, Prof Palaniyandy received an award to the value of £2,220 to attend the Faraday Conference at Newcastle University, in the UK. Following the conference, she wrote a manuscript that outlined a roadmap for battery research in South Africa, which is currently under review. This year, she has been renewed as a Battery Ambassador and awarded an additional £2,200 to attend the Faraday Conference at Warwick University in September 2025.
