With over 15 years’ experience in government administration, private sector, and academic sector, Dr Stander has developed a strong expertise in economic policy and research, economic modelling, data analysis and insights into systems of governance. As a Divisional Head at the City of Tshwane Metropolitan Municipality, he leads a team of economists and researchers to provide strategic intelligence and advice on economic development, investment promotion, and strategic economic planning. He holds a PhD in Economics from the University of Pretoria, where he also lectured and published several papers on economic growth, monetary economics and political economy.
He is passionate about entrepreneurship and innovation and have supported various initiatives and projects to foster a vibrant and inclusive local economy. He is also a former President of the South African Association for Energy Economics, where he promoted the exchange of ideas and knowledge on energy issues. He is keen to make a positive impact on the economic and social well-being of communities.
Nangamso Matebese is an accomplished Infrastructure and Development Finance professional with over 16 years of experience in investment banking, project finance, and economic development. She has led major infrastructure transactions across sectors including transport, ICT, water, energy, and housing, using diverse financing instruments such as debt, equity, and mezzanine funding.
A former Principal Deal Originator at the Development Bank of Southern Africa, she also served as Special Advisor to the Deputy President of South Africa on economic development, infrastructure, and investments. Currently a partner in a private debt and investment firm, she focuses on mobilizing capital for small and mid-cap businesses and advancing sustainable, impact-driven investments.
Ms Matebese serves on several boards and committees, including the Gauteng Partnership Fund and Sizwe-Hosmed Medical Fund, and is a B20 Finance & Infrastructure Task Team Member. Passionate about gender and youth empowerment, she also hosts a thought-leadership platform on women-centric transport and inclusive infrastructure design.
