Prof Puleng LenkaBula
Principal and Vice-Chancellor, Unisa
Young researchers carry on their shoulders, the hopes and dreams of Africa. On these, our rising stars, we collectively rely, to find African solutions to the questions, concerns and challenges which stare the continent in the eye.
Through the Principal’s Award for Excellence in Research, one is enabled to pay tribute to this cohort of young and developing researchers who are already making a requisite contribution to knowledge production in their commitment to shaping African intellectual futures.
The Principal’s Award for Excellence in Research is one of the two highest prizes for research and innovation at Unisa, with the Chancellor’s Award for Excellence in Research being another significant prize.
In 2022, the Principal’s Award for Excellence in Research is awarded to researchers under the age of 35. It is also awarded to groups of researchers who have published high quality research in the preceding two years.
As Unisa’s Principal and Vice-Chancellor, I count it a great honour to be able to recognise this year’s Principal’s Award recipients, comprising young and developing researchers. These are carrying Unisa’s flag so high, thus demonstrating what it means to change lives and shape intellectual futures.
Please join me in applauding the achievements – and unfolding potential – of these young researchers of whom we are so proud. They are indeed the future.
To all our recipients of awards this year…
Congratulations on your achievements, may you continue to make the University of South Africa proud.
