Help to move Wikipedia files to Wikimedia commons[edit]

The following files were uploaded to the local Wikipedia 11 years ago, and now must be uploaded to wikipedia.

Screenshots from Google Chrome[edit]

Google Chrome is free software but I'm concerned that my screenshot maybe taken down. They don't license Chrome properly and the photo is of a graphic that displays when you get 'Aw, Snap!'. Annoymous editor (talk) 06:28, 21 November 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Hi Annoymous editor Google Chrome might be "free software" in the sense that it's free to download, but I don't think it's "free software" in the sense that it's free from copyright protection. So, any COM:SCREENSHOT you take of it could contain copyright protected content and you wouldn't be able to upload such a file to Commons without Google's COM:CONSENT. Moveover, even if Chrome was free software not protected by copyright, you couldn't use it to upload any screenshots of websites or other copyright-protected content created by someone other than Google. The use of "free" can be confusing sometimes so you might want to take a look at en:Gratis versus libre because on Commons "free" has a very specific meaning that differs from how the word is often used out in the real world. -- Marchjuly (talk) 07:14, 21 November 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
@Marchjuly: It is used in Chromium as well under this license on this file. Annoymous editor (yes we know we spelt our name wrong) 06:48, 25 November 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Rotation[edit]

I tried doing two crop-tool rotations of images that appeared to be 180° off. It looks to me (even after purging & refreshing) like I didn't succeed, but I know there can be weird caching issues that don't easily get fixed. Would someone have a look at these and let me know if they are now OK?

@Jeff G.: I had already purged before posting, and they both still look wrong for me, but I'm glad to know that the problem seems to be specific to me. I find this often happens when the size of the image is unchanged (180° rotation). - Jmabel ! talk 16:51, 26 November 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]

File not showing correct version[edit]

Hello! I attempted to make an edit to File:Size_of_English_Wikipedia_(1000_vol).svg in which I changed "1900-" to "-1900". However when I uploaded it, it showed that the change didn't happen so I reverted myself, in which it showed up in the previous version. So I revert to that version, however it shows no change despite the 2 images being different. No matter how much I purge my cache I see no change. Any idea what's happening here? Blaze Wolf (talk) 03:44, 24 November 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]

As I see it shows the correct version now. Ruslik (talk) 11:58, 24 November 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Really? Cause no matter what i do, it shows the 1900- version to me. Blaze Wolf (talk) 13:35, 24 November 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
@Blaze Wolf: presumably a caching issue. Try purging on the server side; try another browser. - Jmabel ! talk 16:32, 24 November 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
It still shows on another browser. How does one purge on the server side? Blaze Wolf (talk) 16:40, 24 November 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]

@Blaze Wolf: Within "Culture & Arts", I see at the bottom of the left column "-1990", as in the version as of 21:16, 23 November 2022 (UTC). Have you read and followed the advice at all three "See ... for more details" links? In addition to that advice, it appears that your problem is local to you, in your session, tab, window, browser, operating system, machine, or proxy. How to update the "source" information for an image[edit]

Searching for "source" in the archives is not a good option, so my apologies if (as is almost certain!) this has been asked before.

I have uploaded a new version of File:BofMiltonKeynesUA-popn.png and now I want to revise at least the "source" information, ideally the "description" too. I can't see an [edit] button anywhere for it? So how do I do it? John Maynard Friedman (talk) 20:15, 24 November 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Numbering of JS code[edit]

I had been very glad when some years ago somebody (many thanx to the unknown helper!) established line numbering for javascript code - as well in display mode, where a search works, as in edit mode, where searches are not possible (why?). But since some weeks one file shows line numbers only in edit mode, while all my other JS sources show them in both modes. I have no explanation what's strange with that file. If somebody there knows about, I will tell where it happens. It is much more difficult to maintain large files without that option! -- sarang사랑 15:36, 26 November 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]

@Sarang: Link to the page? It's likely a matter of changing the page content model, per Special:ChangeContentModel. —Justin (koavf)TCM 15:39, 26 November 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
@Koavf: thanx for swift response, the script is User:Sarang/simpleSVGcheck/sandbox.js; neither do I understand your explanation, nor am I allowed to look into Special:ChangeContentModel.
But I am looking forward that help will come! -- sarang사랑 15:48, 26 November 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
This may help: mw:Content handlers. Basically, this is a way of saying, "This kind of page includes [x] kind of content". This is why MediaWiki will add different kinds of options for how to edit (e.g.) a Lua module versus a data page such as Data:Palmyra Atoll.map. These kind of pages only allow certain kinds of information or edits and they sometimes are validated like code is. —Justin (koavf)TCM 15:52, 26 November 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Thanx again; I cannot come further. I just saw that User:Shirayuki seems to be in that topic - maybe he can help me ? -- sarang사랑 17:13, 26 November 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
How about removing emoticons and html tags or shortening the source code? Shirayuki (talk) 11:32, 6 December 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Now with that JS all numbers have vanished, they are neither in source view from outside, nor opened in edit mode. It is much more difficult to work this mode ! -- sarang사랑 11:16, 6 December 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]

--9x333 (talk) 13:45, 27 November 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]

@9x333: Please note that we do not accept forwarded permissions like this. In such cases, the copyright holder needs to send a permission by email which includes a free licence for anyone to use the image for any purpose – even outside Wikipedia. Please see COM:VRT for instructions. De728631 (talk) 13:59, 27 November 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Or if there is a site that is clearly under control of the copyright holder, they can indicate a license there, and you can site that as the source for the permission. - Jmabel ! talk 16:43, 27 November 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Want to delete my uploads[edit]

hey recently i've tryed to create my own article here, but unfortunatly i uploded only pics and discarded the total article due to some error. but after that i was trying to upload the same pics to my article but it's not taking, showing that (this image is already existed on wiki).

requesting you to please help me through out this, remove my uploads on my account so that i can re upload my original pics,

kind regards, Pranav Percy. Pranavpercy (talk) 05:41, 28 November 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]

  • @Pranavpercy: I hope I have understood correctly that you wanted the two photographs you've uploaded (presumably of yourself) deleted. In the future, the simplest way to get a recent upload of yours deleted is to mark it on the file page with {{speedydelete|G7}} or {{subst:My bad upload}}. -- Jmabel ! talk 06:01, 28 November 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Cannot upload image in article[edit]

I cannot upload a picture in my article. Im just getting an error message: "We could not determine whether this file is suitable for Wikimedia Commons. Please only upload photos that you took yourself with your camera, or see what else is acceptable. See the guide to make sure the file is acceptable and learn how to upload it on Wikimedia Commons." I do own the picture I dont know what else I should do here? CarmenScheibenbogen (talk) 15:52, 28 November 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]

  • @CarmenScheibenbogen: When you say "I do own the picture": owning a physical copy of the picture is not the issue, the question is whether you own the intellectual property rights. If it's a picture you took yourself, that's fine. I raise this only because it's odd that you say you own the picture, but not that you took the picture.
  • Probably you got caught on some limitation about uploading small pictures without EXIF info in a cross-wiki upload; such pictures are usually (but not always) copyright violations, taken from online. You should be able to upload at Special:UploadWizard (on Commons, not cross-wiki); please upload the highest-resolution version of the picture that you have available. - Jmabel ! talk 16:34, 28 November 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Thanks already for the information. I did not took the picture by myself. Im editing the article for the person the article is about. She sent me the same picture of herself that is already displayed on another website. Sould I use the website as a reference for the Image? CarmenScheibenbogen (talk) 17:18, 28 November 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
@CarmenScheibenbogen: Hi, and welcome. I am sorry to inform you that you have triggered Special:AbuseFilter/153 by trying to cross-wiki upload a smaller (<50,000 bytes or <2,000,000 pixels) jpg photo as a new user. The photo you tried to upload is smaller, and you indicated it's your own work. Usually when someone uploads a smaller photo, it is a copyright violation taken from the web. If you took the photo yourself, please upload the full-size original of it per COM:HR, including EXIF metadata. If you did not take the photo, please see Commons:Licensing for why we can't accept it, and have the photographer post permission on their official website or social media or send the photo and permission via VRT with a carbon copy to you. If you can't get a compliant license, the photo may still be uploaded to English Wikipedia in compliance with en:WP:F because we don't allow Fair Use here. If you use our Upload Wizard instead, you should be able to avoid that filter. See also de:WP:COI and en:WP:COI.   — 🇺🇦Jeff G. please ping or talk to me🇺🇦 21:40, 28 November 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
@CarmenScheibenbogen: Does the website indicate a license for the photo? And does she even own the copyright for the photo (which typically would belong to the photographer not the subject of the photo)? We often have problems with notable people passing on photos of themselves for which they don't actually own the rights, or where they don't really understand that they are issuing an irrevocable license that allows reuse, derivative works, etc.
If there is an explicit license on a site or page that is clearly under the control of the copyright-holder, then all you need to do is cite that page and use that license. Otherwise, we need the copyright-holder to go through the COM:VRT process. - Jmabel ! talk 17:05, 29 November 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]

How can I use CDC data for a US obesity map?[edit]

There are a lot of obesity maps of the US, but all of them are at least 8 years old. How can the 2021 CDC data (https://www.cdc.gov/obesity/data/prevalence-maps.html) be used? Can the map be uploaded to Commons directly, or can I make a new map with this data? If so, what permission and license do I have to use? Lights and freedom (talk) 21:02, 28 November 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]

@Lights and freedom: Hi, and welcome. The {{PD-USGov-HHS-CDC}} license used on those older maps should still be valid for newer such maps, as employees of the CDC are still employees of the US Federal Government and still denied copyright for their work product.   — 🇺🇦Jeff G. please ping or talk to me🇺🇦 07:00, 29 November 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Image says Creative Commons Attribution-Noncommercial 4.0, page says CC-BY-4.0?[edit]

On https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Garnets_1920x1920_cc_by_nc_lina_jakaite_strike_dip_com.png if you look at the left edge of the image it says that it's licensed under Creative Commons Attribution-Noncommercial 4.0. (The filename also supports this)

However the page claims it's CC-BY-4.0.

The uploader doesn't seem to be the copyright holder (writes of them in 3rd person in their edits), so unless they got permission to relicense it this seems incorrect.

Where to request all files in category to be renamed[edit]

Hello! AFter removing some info that was unsupported by the source on Midnights on enWiki, I noticed that an image there (currently at File:Taylor Swift 2022.jpg) had a nonsensical name. I've since requested it to be renamed per criterion 2, however upon clicking on a category (Category:Haim - The O2, 21 July 2022) on the image, I discovered that all the files in that category need to be renamed per criterion 2 as they all have nonsensical names. Is there a place where I can request all of these files to be renamed at once(and if so, what should I renamed them to since they can't all have the same name)? Blaze Wolf (talk) 20:37, 29 November 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]

If so my apologies, regardless they still qualify to be renamed under criterion 2 which says "To change from a meaningless or ambiguous name to a name that describes what the image particularly displays." which is what needs to happen to all the images in that category. Blaze Wolf (talk) 20:56, 29 November 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
But I can understand what the files are: it's "HAIMO2210722", which is the band HAIM performing at the O2 on 2021-07-22. What do you think the name should be? —Justin (koavf)TCM 20:59, 29 November 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
I'm not entirely sure, however I was not aware that was what the file meant. To me it just seemed like a bunch of gibberish consisting of a random letter and number combination that's usually the default for a file taken on a camera or phone. Maybe adding spaces would help make it more sense, though I don't think that is a valid reason to rename a file under the criteria for doing so. Because i was unaware that was what it meant I assumed it was "Only information is the photographer or rights holder. The only piece of meaningful information is the name of the photographer or the holder of the copyright." which is part of criterion 2. Blaze Wolf (talk) 21:03, 29 November 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
If you think it should be "HAIM at the O2 2021-07-22 X.jpg", then I think that's valid. Have you seen this? Commons:File_renaming#Mass_rename. —Justin (koavf)TCM 21:06, 29 November 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Yes I have, but I Didn't know that would be relevant to me since I don't have the file mover permission. Blaze Wolf (talk) 21:10, 29 November 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
I do have the user right, but I'm hesitant to move them all now. I'm happy to do the work if someone else finds these names nonsensical. —Justin (koavf)TCM 01:43, 30 November 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Pictures from an Exhibit[edit]

I have pictures from an exhibit at the Greenwich Royal Maritime Museum that I think would be great to share. The artist of the sculptures in question though is still living. The pictures are my own, but I didn't know if I shared the pictures if I would be infringing on some sort of copyright code. EalasaidRaonaidRaighean (talk) 02:55, 30 November 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Uploading when the publisher, not the author, has copyright .[edit]

I want to upload a diagram from a book. The copyright page of the book has the Publisher, not the author, as holding the copyright. Upload Wizard only asks about "The name of the person who took the photo, or painted the picture, drew the drawing, etc." and offers no field that allows me to specify that the copyright holder is the publisher, not the book's author. The publisher (the copyright holder) has granted me permission to upload the diagram to Commons. The author's current state of health prevents him from expressing himself on the matter. How should I proceed? JeddBham64 (talk) 09:07, 1 December 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]

@JeddBham64: You still must indicate the author of the diagram (not the publisher and not the author of the book if different from the author of the diagram) in the "author" field, for several reasons, among which the moral rights of the author and because, in many countries, the duration of the copyright of the copyright holder (publisher or someone else at that point) will be based on the death year of the author. You can use the "permission" field to specify anything of relevance about the copyright, including the identification of the copyright holder. Anyway, in a case like this, you must first convince the copyright owner of the diagram to issue a free license for the diagram and have them confirm it themselves directly through the procedure of Commons:VRT. It must be the copyright owner of the diagram, which may be different from the copyright owner of the book, for example if the diagram was copied with permission from another source. Of course, permission is not relevant if the diagram is in the public domain for some reason. You are being secretive about which book and which diagram you talk about, so not much more can be said. -- Asclepias (talk) 13:53, 1 December 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Only administrators can delete files. Why are you looking to delete your uploads? —Justin (koavf)TCM 13:16, 1 December 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
I want the to participate in a contest here, but as I uploaded them I cannot use them for it. Iryna Hulevata (talk) 13:18, 1 December 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
We have a deletion policy and the reasons for deletion don't include participating in a contest. You can certainly request deletion, but without a valid reason, your files wouldn't be deleted. —Justin (koavf)TCM 13:22, 1 December 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
So what would be a valid reason? Why can't I just delete my own file? Iryna Hulevata (talk) 13:24, 1 December 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
It seems like you did not look at the deletion policy page that I linked, as it answers your first question. As for your second, if you have donated educational media for the world to use and then you are arbitrarily given the ability to remove that access, that is not helpful for others. A Commons admin may personally choose to delete these files, but is not obliged to based on what you have given as a reason. Note that if you license a file with a Creative Commons license, you cannot revoke that license and can only ever make it more free. —Justin (koavf)TCM 13:35, 1 December 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
@Iryna Hulevata: Your two files are very recent uploads from today. In a case like this, you do not need a reason to ask their deletion. Commons will consider that you made a mistake and will delete them. It is criterion "G7" in Commons:Criteria for speedy deletion. You can just include the template Speedydelete in the description page of each file. However, when you say "participate in a contest *here*", do you mean a contest on Wikimedia or elsewhere? If on Wikimedia, you probably do not need to delete the files if your idea is to reupload them anyway. You would probably only need to add templates and categories specific to the contest. -- Asclepias (talk) 14:11, 1 December 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]

About uploading[edit]

If i want to help my client to upload his/her file, Which copyright will i choose Afolabi bisola (talk) 20:18, 1 December 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]

  • @Afolabi bisola: Does your client own the copyright? If not, you'll need to deal with the copyright holder, not just your client.
  • You don't get to choose a copyright. Copyright is a matter of law.
  • To upload to Commons, the copyright-holder (let's presume that is your client) needs to choose a license that is compatible with COM:L. I recommend {{Cc-by-sa-4.0}}, which allows them to specify how they are to be attributed, and reserves pretty much all rights that COM:L doesn't require them to relinquish.
  • By the way, I see that you have recently created en:Draft:Parbhis Rehan. If that is your client -- that is, if that person (or any other) is paying you, then you need to comply with en:Wikipedia:Conflict of interest and en:Wikipedia:Paid-contribution disclosure. Failure to do so in a timely manner will probably get you blocked on en-wiki. Similarly (for conflict of interest) if that is yourself. - Jmabel ! talk 21:20, 1 December 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Logo Deletion[edit]

Hi. I created a logo for an organization I'm a part of (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/New_York_University_Law_Review). I've tried uploading the logo twice and both times they were deleted (https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:N.Y.U._Law_Review_Logo.png). I indicated that I created the logo both times by adding "{ { Own } }" (delete spaces). I'm not sure what else needs to be done here. Any and all help would be greatly appreciated. Nyulrlogo (talk) 14:05, 2 December 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]

  • Convenience link: File:N.Y.U. Law Review Logo.png. - Jmabel ! talk 16:29, 2 December 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
  • @Nyulrlogo: two possible approaches to this.
    1. Given that File:Nyu stacked color.svg is considered too simple for copyright, perhaps this one should be, too, and you could go through the Commons:Undeletion requests process. Not sure what the outcome would be, though.
    2. You say you created the logo. Do you hold copyright, or does the Law Review? (That is, have you transferred copyright to them, in writing?) If they hold copyright, it would be very simple for them to indicate the appropriate CC license for the logo somewhere on their own website, which could be cited as a source. In worst case, though this could be sorted out by the process described at COM:VRT. - Jmabel ! talk 16:37, 2 December 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
    And if I haven't transferred the copyright? Nyulrlogo (talk) 17:25, 2 December 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
@Nyulrlogo: then you are certainly going to have to go through COM:VRT, because anyone could have started an account called "Nyulrlogo". They'll need to establish your identity, and probably will need something from NYU Law Review indicating that you are the designer of the logo. The idea of VRT is that a small, trusted team can handle the necessary correspondence without revealing your identity more publicly. It can be a bit slow, but it's really the only way the owner of an effectively anonymous account can "clear" a logo attached to an institution. - Jmabel ! talk 22:19, 2 December 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Assuming you are talking about File:Adult Learning Table.Andragogy.jpg, right? This seems to be screenshot/capture. What was the source and who created it? --Túrelio (talk) 21:10, 2 December 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
@Pikelake6: The issue is that we will need a license from the copyright-holder. If they have the content somewhere on a site clearly under their own control, then the simplest way to do this is for them to be explicit on that site about the license they are granting for that image. Then you can cite that for the permission.
But there is a further problem here. File:Adult Learning Table.Andragogy.jpg is basically formatted text, not an image, and may therefore be outside of Commons' scope. - Jmabel ! talk 22:24, 2 December 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Possible incorrect way to replace an image[edit]

I have a question about this image file from Wikimedia Commons: [File:Michael Weller, author.jpg] found on this web address: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Michael_Weller,_author.jpg#metadata: It appears that the recent “new version” is not a new version, but a completely different image by a different artist, which seems to be a good-faith mistake in the way to replace an image, as it affects the copyright agreement, and authorship claim — does something need to be done to straighten this out?Åüñîçńøł (talk) 19:23, 2 December 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Hi, problem is that this is on :en-Wikipedia, so it must be dealt with it there, not here. If this had happened here, it would be reverted (per COM:OVERWRITE) and it would be checked whether the new version isn't a copyvio. 3rd issue is that the 2nd uploader simply uploaded a new image without changing the related source/author information, which is a no-go. --Túrelio (talk) 19:40, 2 December 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]

N00b errors when making SVG multilingual[edit]

Sorry about making a mess. I was trying to use File:PPV,_NPV,_Sensitivity_and_Specificity.svg on nowiki. Seeing that the file in question did not contain translatable text, I manually edited it in Inkscape and created File:PPV_NPV_Sensitivity_and_Specificity-no.svg, only then did I figure out that SVG has a switch statement and that I might have been better off uploading this version to the original and start creating translations. So now there is a Norwegian version, an English version and another Turkish version, not created by me called File:PPV,_NPV,_Sensitivity_and_Specificity-tr.svg. They all have their different file histories. How do I best merge them into one multilingual SVG? BFG (talk) 12:30, 3 December 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Marieaburto (talk) 21:34, 3 December 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]

  • @Marieaburto: Give the date as accurately as you can. You can always go back and edit after uploading, which is really the only choice you want to use (for example) {{Circa}} or {{Other date}}. That latter is really useful for constructions like {{other date|between|1899|1903}}. - Jmabel ! talk 04:12, 4 December 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Merge history of images and change file name[edit]

Hello,

i tried to find a solution myself, but I don't want to do anything wrong.

In 2006, user @Sgt bilko drew a map of the Salzburg S-Bahn (a local commuter train network): File:S-Bahn_Salzburg,_Netzplan.svg

In 2015, user @Aisano updated the map and uploaded it under a new file name: File:S-Bahn Salzburg, Netzplan 2015-f.svg This file is used on 17 different wiki pages worldwide.

Now I want to upload a new version from 2022 of the map. My suggestion would be to merge the two files under the original name. Then I can upload a new version without "2015" in the file name but still the history is visible. I tried to merge the files with the "Move" function, but it doesn't work. Mediadesigner (talk) 22:16, 3 December 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Why would you want to do that? In 2006 there were the lines S1, S2, S3. In 2015 there were the lines S1, S2, S3, S4. I assume in 2022 there will be again other lines. Would you also merge an image of Donald Trump at 5 years of age with images of Donald Trump at 25 ad 85 years of age? C.Suthorn (talk) 07:37, 4 December 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Actually, this is best practice for rail maps. Look at New York City Subway, S-Bahn Berlin - Netzplan.svg, Tokyo Metro and thousands more. The reason is simple: The current network plan should always be visible in the info boxes. People want to get information there. It would be crazy to update all Wikipedia articles worldwide with every map update. You can't compare a network map to a photo of a person. Of course, a new photo should not replace an old one. But when updating a network map, that's different. That's not a photo, that's information. And information should never be outdated. --Mediadesigner 11:35, 4 December 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Depicts and quantity[edit]

I'm looking at File:Koekjestrommel open.jpg. There are seven different types of cookies, and unknown number of individual cookies (probably between 20 and 30). The seven types is the relevant part, because of the w:Sju sorters kakor tradition. I would like to set up a depicts statement that says the photo depicts cookies (that's easy enough), and specifically that there are seven types of cookies.

I have read Commons:Structured data/Modeling/Depiction. d:Property:P180#Constraints lists an item "quantity". But I suspect that is meant to be used for "about 30 cookies all together" and not for "7 different types of cookies". image upload[edit]

Hello. I've noticed that in several Wikipedia pages, in almost every language (such as German and Spanish, but more), the picture referring to Bolaji Badejo is not accurate. The person depicted is not Bolaji Badejo (who performed the Xenomorph in Ridley Scott's 1979 "Alien" movie) but rather some other person known as Chief Bolaji Ayorinde SAN. I'm not being able to change this picture because of licensing issues, but I think it would be important that someone could correct this mistake. The image is incorrect in almost every language page. Thank you! Nwnj (talk) 14:35, 5 December 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]

@Nwnj: Hi, and welcome. Exactly which wikilink or URL here is a picture of Chief Bolaji Ayorinde SAN? Exactly where did you find correct pictures of Bolaji Badejo?   — 🇺🇦Jeff G. please ping or talk to me🇺🇦 14:43, 5 December 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Hi, and welcome. We generally do not publish texts here on Commons per COM:NOT. How do you know the subject of your article fa:سید رسول میرعظیمی? Did you photograph File:سید رسول میرعظیمی.jpg?   — 🇺🇦Jeff G. please ping or talk to me🇺🇦 14:54, 5 December 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]

@Jeff G.: Hi. I received your ping and come here. How can I help? Q2020 (talk) 15:09, 5 December 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
@Q2020: Garzakra appears to be unsatisfied with your deletion of fa:سید رسول میرعظیمی. I suspect it is a biography. Is there perhaps an incubation or userspace area or another project or website which would be a more appropriate home to that content? Does it appear to be promotion by self or another?   — 🇺🇦Jeff G. please ping or talk to me🇺🇦 02:55, 6 December 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Large image version[edit]

In my excitement to provide Commons with the "highest resolution file possible" I may have gone too far. I successfully uploaded File:Corianton_lobby_card_1.tif. I want to upload another version of the file that crops out the black and white space surrounding the image. To also show the original image borders, I thought I would upload the cropped version as another version of the original. The cropped version is about 272 MB, but the upload limit is 100 MB. I can think of a few workarounds--reducing the resolution to make the image less than 100 MB, or uploading the cropped version separately and using a template that shows it is derived from the original image. Is there a best practice? Rachel Helps (BYU) (talk) 20:41, 5 December 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Thank you, I'll do that! Rachel Helps (BYU) (talk) 21:16, 5 December 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Regarding licenses about uploads.[edit]

Can an image which is entirely my own work, be used for commercial purposes without giving me proper credit (or the money if anyone makes from that particular image)? — Preceding unsigned comment added by NerdyRas007 (talk • contribs) 05:55, 6 December 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]

@NerdyRas007: That depends on how you license the image. Excerpt from Commons:Licensing:
  • Republication and distribution must be allowed.
  • Publication of derivative work must be allowed.
  • Commercial use of the work must be allowed.
  • The license must be perpetual (non-expiring) and non-revocable.
  • Acknowledgment of all authors/contributors of a work may be required.
  • Publication of derivative work under the same license may be required.
  • For digital distribution, use of open file formats free of digital restrictions management (DRM) may be required.
The recommended license if you're uploading your own work is the Attribution-ShareAlike 4.0 International (CC BY-SA 4.0) license, which requires attribution.
