Attribution only
[edit]I wish this organisation would consider making these pictures Attribution only. Attribution would lead back to the original source, and give the viewer the same ability to use the original images.
I write educational content. As it stands, I can not use any of these images, as they are copy-left (share-alike). Wikimedia is full of these images (makes finding an image I can use more difficult), and most people can not use them, which is a shame. [Edited to seem less harsh, I meant this in a productive way!]Zzubnik (talk) 11:36, 7 June 2011 (UTC)
- I am disappointed that nobody can respond to me on this matter. Zzubnik (talk) 15:30, 16 February 2012 (UTC)
- I would suggest registering with Geograph and asking them about this matter, but the site intends for the images to be used in education Oxyman (talk) 01:46, 29 April 2012 (UTC)
- why do you want geograph to change their licence to attribution only? i don't see a problem in re-using copylefted content. if you will not create derivative works of copylefted images, complying with the licence would be the same as complying with cc-by. also, cc-by-sa would prevent derivators to relicense their derivative work under a more restrictive or non-free license, and i agree with the spirit of copyleft TemTem (talk) 02:42, 12 September 2017 (UTC)
Uncategorized-Geograph and gridref parameter
[edit]After categorizng (or checking the categories), should I just remove the {{Uncategorized-Geograph}} transclusion completely? I assume so. My hesitation is because that template has the gridref parameter, and that's the only place on the page that the gridref string is. Superm401 - Talk 08:33, 23 September 2013 (UTC)
- Yes you should if the file has been correctly categorised, as it will then have appropriate location categories (at least as precise as town/village level; county-level is insufficent). Once the file has been localised to that level, the grid ref cat isn't needed. The precise location is retained via the lat/long info.--Nilfanion (talk) 10:43, 23 September 2013 (UTC)

- Commons:Geograph Britain and Ireland and its language subpages were at most semi-protected, so I've updated all of them. --bjh21 (talk) 13:16, 13 September 2017 (UTC)
