Important message for file movers[edit]
A community discussion has been closed where the consensus was to grant all file movers the suppressredirect
user right. This will allow file movers to not leave behind a redirect when moving files and instead automatically have the original file name deleted. Policy never requires you to suppress the redirect, suppression of redirects is entirely optional.
Possible acceptable uses of this ability:
- To move recently uploaded files with an obvious error in the file name where that error would not be a reasonable redirect. For example: moving "Sheep in a tree.jpg" to "Squirrel in a tree.jpg" when the image does in fact depict a squirrel.
- To perform file name swaps.
- When the original file name contains vandalism. (File renaming criterion #5)
Please note, this ability should be used only in certain circumstances and only if you are absolutely sure that it is not going to break the display of the file on any project. Redirects should never be suppressed if the file is in use on any project. When in doubt, leave a redirect. If you forget to suppress the redirect in case of file name vandalism or you are not fully certain if the original file name is actually vandalism, leave a redirect and tag the redirect for speedy deletion per G2.
The malicious or reckless breaking of file links via the suppressredirect
user right is considered an abuse of the file mover right and is grounds for immediate revocation of that right. This message serves as both a notice that you have this right and as an official warning. Questions regarding this right should be directed to administrators. --Majora (talk) 21:36, 7 November 2019 (UTC)

Your Heroic Efforts Remain Greatly Appreciated and Sorely Missed[edit]
We hope, we miss your countless contributions of photos, especially the Warner Bros. television stills. I remember that you became understandably disgusted by repeated cavalier deletions of photographs that should obviously be allowed into Wikipedia, to the point that you retired from doing so. I want you to know that there must be many contributors, including (especially) myself, who sorely miss your efforts, and that we get a pang every time we take a closer look at a photograph that you contributed. Please consider resuming, armed with the knowledge that there will always be vandals in every endeavor but that it's often worth fighting a deletion when it's obviously wrong. We appreciate your endeavors, We hope, and we hope that you decide to resume boosting Wikipedia with delightful contributions. Your appropriate name resonates even now for Wikipedia's more discerning fellow contributors. Figure Out What's Right (talk) 21:44, 26 February 2020 (UTC)

File:James Dunn.jpg[edit]
Hi, I'm having trouble understanding your dating rationale. There is a "Date used" stamp on the original upload that says September 4, 1967. Dunn died on September 1, 1967, and this image was used in several newspaper obituaries. Compared to his photos in the 1930s and 1950s, this appears to have been taken in the 1940s. He appeared in the 20th Century Fox production A Tree Grows in Brooklyn in 1945. Why are you dating this 1955? Yoninah (talk) 12:33, 12 June 2020 (UTC)
