Permission to use http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:CookedCornOnTheCob.JPG[edit]
Hi Jonathunder,
I am a producer for an independent documentary about climate change in upstate New York. More about the film is at www.comfortzoneproject.com.
We would like to use your image "cooked corn on the cob" in a short section with montage of foods that will be harder to grow. The only change to the image is to add the word "corn". It is in a series of still photos, with music.
As a license reviewer, you know better than I do, but I think that we can use the shot under the current license? I know that it is a share-alike license, and I would very much like to hear your thoughts on whether including an unaltered image in a series of images (with music) counts as "alter, transform, or build", because we have several instances in the film where we do a similar thing with other "share-alike" images. And if we do need to share alike, and the image is on for a second or less in a film that is over an hour long, can we just share that image, or just the sequence that the image is in?
Thanks so much for your help!
Kate
- Please feel free to use that image as you wish. Jonathunder (talk) 23:12, 1 October 2012 (UTC)
Thanks Jonathunder! just want to confirm that you're giving us permission to use your corn photo in our film, which will NOT be released under the creative commons share-alike license. Kate
- Yes, that's fine by me. Jonathunder (talk) 01:50, 21 December 2012 (UTC)

- Doh! You're right. And you know what's funny about this? For a summer, I lived literally across the alley from the actual Gallager house while it was being repainted in what the all neighbors called an "ugly" salmon, which was apparently the original color. How could I have gotten this wrong? I'll get the correct photo when I'm next back in Winona. Jonathunder (talk) 17:49, 31 October 2012 (UTC)

Misidentified image[edit]
Hey, Jonathunder.
I just wanted to let you know that this image from the Diplomatic Reception Rooms at the U.S. Dept. of State was misidentified. I looked up the piece in Clement Conger's catalogue of the collection, and corrected the description. Thank you for uploading the image. If you have other images of the rooms or objects, I hope you'll consider sharing them.

Cracker Barrel in Wisconsin[edit]
The description for File:CBshop.jpg says it's in Wisconsin Dells, Wisconsin, but I haven't found one in the city itself. Since it's from 2013, I'm taking a guess that this is the nearest one existing, on U.S. 12 (Wisconsin Dells Parkway South) just off the I-90 exit, south of Wisconsin Dells and Lake Dalton, Wisconsin (strangely, with a Baraboo, Wisconsin postal address). Can you confirm that? (I've put it in Category:Sauk County, Wisconsin but want to make sure I'm not mislabeling a Cracker Barrel somewhere else, or in the other direction, or something like that.) --Closeapple (talk) 05:30, 20 December 2013 (UTC)
- You are correct. The store says it is in Wisconsin Dells, and it is immediately off the Dells/Baraboo exit of Interstate 90/94, but the legal addresses in that area are confusing, partly because the Dells is at the intersection of four Wisconsin counties. I have added a geolocation to the image. Jonathunder (talk) 15:19, 20 December 2013 (UTC)

Dear Wikimedians,
Wikimedia Commons is happy to announce that the 2013 Picture of the Year competition is now open. This year will be the eighth edition of the annual Wikimedia Commons photo competition, which recognizes exceptional contributions by users on Wikimedia Commons. Wikimedia users are invited to vote for their favorite images featured on Commons during the last year (2013) to produce a single Picture of the Year.
Hundreds of images that have been rated Featured Pictures by the international Wikimedia Commons community in the past year are all entered in this competition. These images include professional animal and plant shots, breathtaking panoramas and skylines, restorations of historical images, photographs portraying the world's best architecture, impressive human portraits, and so much more.
For your convenience, we have sorted the images into topical categories. Two rounds of voting will be held: In the first round, you may vote for as many images as you like. The top 30 overall and the most popular image in each category will continue to the final. In the final round, you may vote for just one image to become the Picture of the Year.
Round 1 will end on . Click here to learn more and vote »
Thanks,
the Wikimedia Commons Picture of the Year committee

WW II Victory Medal and ribbon image[edit]
Hi.
The ribbon bar that appears to have been glued to the bottom part of this image does not appear to be the correct ribbon for the medal. It should match the color pattern of the ribbon attached to the medal, like . Instead, it seems to match this ribbon: .
Can I suggest either cropping out the ribbon bar or removing the image entirely (as it isn't used anywhere)? —[AlanM1(talk)]— 10:23, 20 February 2014 (UTC)
- I'm willing to crop out the ribbon if you think that would make the file more useful. Jonathunder (talk) 00:36, 21 February 2014 (UTC)

Copyright status: File:1412LeechLakeRoute.jpg[edit]
This media may be deleted. |
Thanks for uploading File:1412LeechLakeRoute.jpg. I notice that the file page either doesn't contain enough information about the license or it contains contradictory information about the license, so the copyright status is unclear.
If you created this file yourself, then you must provide a valid copyright tag. For example, you can tag it with {{self|GFDL|cc-by-sa-all}} to release it under the multi-license GFDL plus Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike All-version license or you can tag it with {{PD-self}} to release it into the public domain. (See Commons:Copyright tags for the full list of license tags that you can use.) If you did not create the file yourself or if it is a derivative of another work that is possibly subject to copyright protection, then you must specify where you found it (e.g. usually a link to the web page where you got it), you must provide proof that it has a license that is acceptable for Commons (e.g. usually a link to the terms of use for content from that page), and you must add an appropriate license tag. If you did not create the file yourself and the specific source and license information is not available on the web, you must obtain permission through the OTRS system and follow the procedure described there. Note that any unsourced or improperly licensed files will be deleted one week after they have been marked as lacking proper information, as described in criteria for deletion. If you have uploaded other files, please confirm that you have provided the proper information for those files, too. If you have any questions about licenses please ask at Commons:Village pump/Copyright or see our help pages. Thank you. |
No required license templates were detected at this file page. Please correct it, or if you have any questions please contact me on my talk page. Yours sincerely, Jarekt (talk) 16:18, 20 September 2014 (UTC)

Hi, Jonathunder, sorry but the object has the appearance of forgery. It may be a fossil ammonite, but the ribs have all appearance of being heavily retouched artificially. St. Andrew's Cathedral, Peoria?[edit]
I see you uploaded a photo of the Cathedral of St. Andrew the Apostle in Peoria, Illinois. According to the Diocese of Quincy website they still maintain their cathedral at St. John's in Quincy, and the St. John's parish website also says they are the cathedral church. The diocese does not list a St. Andrew's in Peoria. The only Anglican church listed there is St. Michael and All Angels, a modern structure. Is St. Andrew's a parish/cathedral of a different Anglican diocese/province? There are so many these days, but I couldn't find a reliable source that says there is a St. Andrew's Cathedral in Peoria. Farragutful (talk) 12:46, 2 March 2017 (UTC)
- I'm not sure what the status of that building is today, other than to describe it as a former cathedral. Jonathunder (talk) 14:50, 2 March 2017 (UTC) However, this page still names it as a cathedral. Jonathunder (talk) 15:14, 2 March 2017 (UTC)
- I missed that source. I noticed the church's web link on that site went to a page that is no longer active. I looked the church up on Google Maps (oddly, that helps sometimes), but I could not determine what kind of church it is. I think your new classification is as good as anything right now. By the way, I admire your work. Farragutful (talk) 17:32, 4 March 2017 (UTC)

These photos are recognized for their photographic quality, artistic merit, and their encyclopedic value as illustrations of unique historical sites. We were amazed by all of the uploads, and regret only being able to formally recognize the top 10. That being said – congratulations to our national winners and their amazing shots! Our 10 winners will be sent to the international Wiki Loves Monuments jury, who will then select the winners of the international contest. If you're interested in seeing the winners of the other national contests, you may do so at Wiki Loves Monuments 2017 winners.
If you would like to view all the photos submitted for the U.S. this year, you may do so here.
Finally, we have also created a feedback form for all U.S. participants to fill out. The survey is optional and anonymous, and only takes a minute or two – we hope to use the feedback to organize better events in the future!
A quick thank you to our national jury, as well as Commons editors who have helped categorize and place photos for the event. And finally, thank you for participating in Wiki Loves Monuments and helping to preserve our history through photography - we hope to see you again for future Commons photography events!

Gust Brothers' Store photo not correct[edit]
This Gust Brothers' Store photo is not the NRHP building pictured at NRHP photos. The Gust Brothers NRHP building is across 4th street to the North. Google street view shows this buildings address as 530 Oak St. and not 101 4th Street. --Bamyers99 (talk) 00:45, 5 February 2018 (UTC)
Rochester co-cathedral[edit]
Are you aware that St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Rochester, Minnesota was named a co-cathedral in the newly renamed Diocese of Winona-Rochester this week? Regardless, I was wondering if you might be in the Rochester area in the months ahead in order to get a photo of the church? I'll be in the Twin Cities in June, but my time will be short this year so there is no time for a side trip to Rochester. Thank you for considering this request. Farragutful (talk) 01:31, 31 March 2018 (UTC)
- I see this church often and will photograph it when it is surrounded by flowers rather than snowbanks, which I hope will be soon, long before June. I hope to also get good pictures at the dedication ceremony officially making it a cathedral.
- Perhaps we could arrange a Wikipedia meetup for when you are in Minnesota. Let me know if you're interested. Jonathunder (talk) 03:26, 6 April 2018 (UTC)
- I had a feeling you knew all about the situation, but I didn't want to make any assumptions. I also agree to wait for the snow to be replaced by flowers, although it seems that winter does not want to let go this year.
- I'm open to a meetup, but as I said above, my time is short. I fly into MSP around noon on Friday, June 15, and I am attending a function near the Mall of America that evening. I fly out the next morning. At this date, I know of no other plans other than needing to get ready for a semi-formal event, but that could change. Let me know if this works for you. I realize that a Friday may not be the best day, and the time available makes it more difficult. Farragutful (talk) 21:25, 8 April 2018 (UTC)
Here is a shot from inside that church. Jonathunder (talk) 04:11, 13 April 2018 (UTC)

to your userpage!Hello! Last year you contributed to Wiki Loves Monuments 2017 in the United States. Thanks to people like you it was a great success, with over 1,400 people contributing over 8,000 photos of cultural and historic sites from all over the country. Hundreds of these photos now help illustrate Wikipedia articles, improving our open knowledge about United States history, culture, and heritage.
I'm pleased to say that we're back this year with Wiki Loves Monuments 2018 in the United States, and I'd like to welcome you to participate once again in the event. Check out our updated event page for more information. The event runs similar to last year with some small but exciting changes: improved state guides, an interactive map, and a larger prize pool! Like last year, you'll be able to upload your photos of any registered historical site in the United States through the end of September (even if the photos were taken before this month).
Once again, thank you for participating in Wiki Loves Monuments 2017, and we hope to see you again in this year's event! If you'd like to respond to this message directly, please do so on on my talk page. ~Kevin Payravi (talk) 11:45, 11 September 2018 (UTC)
Updates about GFDL and suggestion[edit]
Hello. I saw many (if not some) of your works licensed under only GFDL. I congratulate you for such works that earned Quality Image and Featured Image promotions. However, just for notification, effective 15 October 2018, the Commons:Licensing policy will no longer accept works licensed only under GFDL on or after that date, i.e. (again) 15 October 2018.
Have you considered dual-licensing for your works? E.g. one work can be licensed under both CC-BY-SA or CC-BY-NC-SA and GFDL. Alternatively, you can upload low-res versions of your works under newer licenses in separate files. Thoughts? George Ho (talk) 01:37, 17 September 2018 (UTC)
On second thought, CC-BY-SA or CC-BY-NC-SA for past works. For newer uploads, GFDL and any CC-BY-NC license as dual licenses would no longer be possible, and I'm not sure whether there's a point on using those licenses as part of triple licensing. George Ho (talk) 06:38, 19 September 2018 (UTC)
- Where was this discussed? It would have been nice to have gotten some notice of it. Jonathunder (talk) 17:11, 21 September 2018 (UTC)
- Here's the discussion for you to read. BTW, the notice is already posted at the main Village Pump (oldid). George Ho (talk) 03:09, 23 September 2018 (UTC)
- Just wondering. Have you considered adding CC-BY-NC-SA via {{Cc-non-compliant}} as the second license or changing to {{GFDL 1.2 or cc-by-nc-3.0}}? I see that you uploaded File:MikahMeyer.jpg with only GFDL, even though that's acceptable for older works licensed before 15 October 2018. IMO, CC licenses are easier to use and to understand and less complex to distribute. George Ho (talk) 21:04, 26 September 2018 (UTC)
Copyright status: File:GLCSsign.jpg[edit]
Copyright status: File:GLCSsign.jpg
This media may be deleted. |
Thanks for uploading File:GLCSsign.jpg.
Thank you. |

Permission to use File:Judy Onofrio Portrait.tif in Wikimedia Commons[edit]
Hi Jonathunder!
I am writing to dispute the deletion request for File:Judy Onofrio Portrait.tif as she has given permission for its use on wikipedia pages. I'm new to the commons, so I am not sure if I am disputing this correctly - it seems there are conflicting messages as to whether I should comment on your talk page or on the page of the image. However, the artist (Judy) owns the rights to the photo and has given permission for its use on her wikipedia page and wiki commons.

Whether to use Template:Cc-by-sa-1.0[edit]
Seems that you have tremendously lessened your activities on Commons. I wonder whether you would like to upload your own newer works released under Template:Cc-by-sa-1.0. CC BY-SA 1.0 is incompatible with any other license and later versions of CC BY-SA. --George Ho (talk) 21:18, 2 February 2019 (UTC)

Jonathunder, Could I please share your photo 1280px-BabcockStoneTable.jpg for my project Restore Lilac Way? Your photo shows the only other stone picnic table, the 7 parks built on Highway 100 in Minneapolis in 1939 ALSO have stone picnic tables like the one in Elk River. I have never seen one of those tables in any other parks. Thanks very much, Karen Laukkonen karen@restorelilacway.com. —Preceding unsigned comment was added by 2601:441:457F:D55C:3536:4412:B565:39E1 (talk) 05:31, 4 April 2019 (UTC)
- You certainly may use this image and thank you for asking. I know I've seen tables like that in other parks, but I can't recall where just now. I'd be interested in learning more about your project. Jonathunder (talk) 18:06, 4 April 2019 (UTC)

Hi, Jonathan.
May I please have permission to use this picture of the consecration of an Episcopal bishop? I am writing a paper on the origins and development of the mitre, and this is an excellent overhead view of the modern mitre.
Thank you very much. —Preceding unsigned comment was added by 24.112.146.153 (talk) 17:14, 20 August 2019 (UTC)
- Yes, I'm happy you find it useful. Jonathunder (talk) 18:02, 20 August 2019 (UTC)
Charles City or Mason City[edit]
I have a question about two of your Iowa church photos from last year, File:InteriorGraceEpiscopalChurchCharlesCityIA.jpg and File:SideAltarCharlesCityIA.jpg. You have identified them as Grace Episcopal in Charles City, Iowa. However, they appear to be St. John's Episcopal in Mason City. Grace is a small, rather modern, frame structure, while St. John's is a more solid brick building. I may be mistaken as I'm not entirely familiar with either, but I thought it was worth checking out. Kind regards. Farragutful (talk) 22:04, 10 September 2019 (UTC)
- Thank you. You are right. I have corrected the file names and descriptions. Jonathunder (talk) 14:05, 11 September 2019 (UTC)
Important message for file movers[edit]
A community discussion has been closed where the consensus was to grant all file movers the suppressredirect
user right. This will allow file movers to not leave behind a redirect when moving files and instead automatically have the original file name deleted. Policy never requires you to suppress the redirect, suppression of redirects is entirely optional.
Possible acceptable uses of this ability:
- To move recently uploaded files with an obvious error in the file name where that error would not be a reasonable redirect. For example: moving "Sheep in a tree.jpg" to "Squirrel in a tree.jpg" when the image does in fact depict a squirrel.
- To perform file name swaps.
- When the original file name contains vandalism. (File renaming criterion #5)
Please note, this ability should be used only in certain circumstances and only if you are absolutely sure that it is not going to break the display of the file on any project. Redirects should never be suppressed if the file is in use on any project. When in doubt, leave a redirect. If you forget to suppress the redirect in case of file name vandalism or you are not fully certain if the original file name is actually vandalism, leave a redirect and tag the redirect for speedy deletion per G2.
The malicious or reckless breaking of file links via the suppressredirect
user right is considered an abuse of the file mover right and is grounds for immediate revocation of that right. This message serves as both a notice that you have this right and as an official warning. Questions regarding this right should be directed to administrators. --Majora (talk) 21:35, 7 November 2019 (UTC)

Permission to use Cannon Falls photo[edit]
Hello, I am a graphic designer working with the Cannon Falls Area Chamber of Commerce to produce a visitor's guide to Cannon Falls, MN. I was wondering if we could have your permission to use your photo of downtown Cannon Falls inside the visitor's guide? (I also emailed you.)
Thanks!

Usage of the butter figurine sculpting photo[edit]
Dear Jona,
I am interested in using your photo https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Butter_sculpture#/media/File:PrincessKay.jpg in YouTube video about a Nintendo video game toy, while discussing fragile and non lasting items. I would credit you with your name and any addition that comes to your mind. The channel is https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCRNVSMZe1V3yUmIA9NGB3kg/
May I use your photo?
