The engaged scholarship projects of the College of Graduate Studies are centered on the research mission and objectives of the Research, Postgraduate Studies, Innovation and Commercialisation Portfolio.
In view of the College’s research agenda, the engaged scholarship projects in the College of Graduate Studies are research-based. This aligns with the objectives of the Research & Innovation Portfolio and the College’s role in teaching community-engaged research theory as part of a training repertoire to give substance to Unisa’s goal to advance multi-, inter- and trans-disciplinary research.
The impact of the current registered project has in the communities is driven by the university policies of educating and emancipating communities. The project demonstrates the position of engaged scholarship in the College of Graduate Studies.
The College identifies partnerships with communities with specific needs which can be addressed through the expertise of the College in the areas of teaching and research. The School of Interdisciplinary Research and Graduate Studies housed in the College will investigate international engaged scholarship fellowships in order to identify opportunities and further expand its engaged scholarship activities.
A designated Engaged scholarship Manager, who is also a member of the Senate Engaged scholarship Committee, is responsible for the coordination of engaged scholarship projects in the College and serves on the Senate Engaged scholarship Committee with the Executive Dean. Each individual College-approved engaged scholarship project is championed by a project leader under the guidance of the Director of a School.
