Unisa's School of Interdisciplinary Research and Graduate Studies (SIRGS) is a central hub where honours, postgraduate diploma, master's and doctoral students are nurtured and supported. The SIRGS offers a range of workshops that deal with all aspects of research to equip and skill postgraduates to excel in research and innovation and complete their degrees successfully. Training workshops range from general to more specialised areas and are designed to fit the requirements of specific research disciplines.
The 2023 attendance rate of the training workshops drastically increased, and based on the evaluation reports, postgraduate students have benefited considerably.
Students reported that the workshops are enriching and packed with informative content. Some said the workshops provided extensive research support, encouragement, and preparedness for their academic and research journey. Topics covered include academic writing skills, introduction to qualitative and quantitative research methods, what examiners expect in a dissertation and thesis, selecting a mentor and supervisor, and selecting a discipline and topic.
Registered postgraduate students can attend workshops for free and can have access to recorded YouTube videos through the SIRGS website. The following are helpful links to social media channels and other resources to support postgraduate students:
