Dr Platonova has always been passionate about learning!

After graduating from school with distinction, she began studying Economics at the Institute of Commerce in Nizhny Novgorod, Russia. However, she soon realised that it was not enough for her and, along with Economics, she continued her educational path with philosophical disciplines, privately supervised by a philosophy professor.

As a final-year student, she wrote her last paper in Germany on government support policies for innovative start-ups, which resulted in her working for a government institution in Nizhny Novgorod supporting and consulting small innovative companies. It was in this role that she discovered that her main interest and strength lay in teaching and knowledge sharing. She therefore returned to the Institute of Commerce as an instructor where she taught business subjects. This is where her academic career began, giving her the chance to travel and conduct research in Germany, first at the Hochschule Niederrhein in Moenchengladbach (financed by Heinrich Hertz Foundation), then at the Freie Universitaet Berlin (financed by DAAD).

In 2014 as head of the Scientific Department at the Institute of Open Education (Lobachevsky State University, Nizhny Novgorod), she started her research into effective teaching and learning strategies. It was during this time that she started to do collaborative research and educational activities with colleagues at Unisa, especially on metacognition and effective learning.

In 2019 she became an associate professor at the Higher School of Economics (Nizhny Novgorod branch), combining her face-to-face teaching with online teaching at the St. Tikhon's University in Moscow. Since then, she has been teaching Knowledge Management in an organisation, as well as a new course in English self-directed learning and personal knowledge management. She has twice received research funding from the V. Potanin Foundation in support of her educational projects devoted to developing self-directed learning skills among master’s students.

Currently she is also a part-time educational specialist at a secondary school, where she manages a project about personalised educational models and develops strategies to grow school students' agency and learning skills.
