Providing author information[edit]
Hi. When you uploaded File:Tak of Ping river.JPG from the English Wikipedia, you (probably inadvertently) removed the author information from the image description page. Please don't forget to provide full attribution to the original uploaders and adjust licensing templates accordingly. Thank you. --Paul_012 (talk) 15:10, 16 March 2010 (UTC)

Thanks for uploading File:Dinamo Tbilisi UEFA Cup Winners Cup Winner 1981.jpg. This media is missing permission information. A source is given, but there is no proof that the author or copyright holder agreed to license the file under the given license. Please provide a link to an appropriate webpage with license information, or send an email with copy of a written permission to OTRS (permissions-commons@wikimedia.org). This also applies if you are the author yourself. After you emailed permission, you may replace the {{No permission since}} tag with {{subst:OP}} on file description page.
Please see this page for more information on how to confirm permission, and Commons:Permission if you would like to understand why we ask for permission when uploading work that is not your own. The file probably has been deleted. If you sent a permission, try to send it again after 14 days. Do not re-upload. When the OTRS-member processes your mail, the file can be undeleted. Additionally you can request undeletion here, providing a link to the File-page on Commons where it was uploaded ([[:File:Dinamo Tbilisi UEFA Cup Winners Cup Winner 1981.jpg]] ) and the above demanded information in your request. |

Picture of the Year voting round 1 open[edit]
Dear Wikimedians,
Wikimedia Commons is happy to announce that the 2012 Picture of the Year competition is now open. We're interested in your opinion as to which images qualify to be the Picture of the Year for 2012. Voting is open to established Wikimedia users who meet the following criteria:
- Users must have an account, at any Wikimedia project, which was registered before Tue, 01 Jan 2013 00:00:00 +0000 [UTC].
- This user account must have more than 75 edits on any single Wikimedia project before Tue, 01 Jan 2013 00:00:00 +0000 [UTC]. Please check your account eligibility at the POTY 2012 Contest Eligibility tool.
- Users must vote with an account meeting the above requirements either on Commons or another SUL-related Wikimedia project (for other Wikimedia projects, the account must be attached to the user's Commons account through SUL).
Hundreds of images that have been rated Featured Pictures by the international Wikimedia Commons community in the past year are all entered in this competition. From professional animal and plant shots to breathtaking panoramas and skylines, restorations of historically relevant images, images portraying the world's best architecture, maps, emblems, diagrams created with the most modern technology, and impressive human portraits, Commons features pictures of all flavors.
For your convenience, we have sorted the images into topic categories. Two rounds of voting will be held: In the first round, you can vote for as many images as you like. The first round category winners and the top ten overall will then make it to the final. In the final round, when a limited number of images are left, you must decide on the one image that you want to become the Picture of the Year.
To see the candidate images just go to the POTY 2012 page on Wikimedia Commons
Wikimedia Commons celebrates our featured images of 2012 with this contest. Your votes decide the Picture of the Year, so remember to vote in the first round by January 30, 2013.
Thanks,
the Wikimedia Commons Picture of the Year committee

Request: Can you create alternative png, or if you can, svg versions of the European country maps without any separatist regions depicted, which that politically biased bully Leftcry has usurped?[edit]
Can you create alternative png, or if you can, svg versions of the European country maps (and any other map) without any separatist regions depicted, which Leftcry has usurped? Please make sure that the TITLE and the DESCRIPTION section of each of these maps reflects it (so politically minded bullies like him can have no excuse to add separatist regions in these new alternative maps) when you first upload them and that any future changes need to conform to this. And if he interferes in these alternative maps as well, report him. Please also check my history section on these maps I have visited and edited, but were all undone by Leftcry, and all other maps I have not, which are being visited and usurped by him.
Thank you and best regards. --A2D2 (talk) 16:08, 17 January 2015 (UTC)

If you created this category, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for discussion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it. If the category is up for deletion because it has been superseded, consider the notion that although the category may be deleted, your hard work (which we all greatly appreciate) lives on in the new category. In all cases, please do not take the category discussion personally. It is never intended as such. Thank you! |
Daily gallery updater has failed on User:BRUTE/new uploads[edit]
Hello. This message is to inform you that a daily gallery in your userspace, User:BRUTE/new uploads, has failed. Due to software limitations, the bot has a hard upper-limit of 1500 files per gallery, while your gallery had 4113 images.
This usually happens because a gallery is too broad, encompassing too many subcategories. Please review the logs here and request that a subcategory be excluded, or narrow your category choice(s).
Please make your request for removal within 4 days, or your gallery will be subject to removal.
Thank you. Magog the Ogre (via OgreBot (talk) 03:32, 12 May 2015 (UTC))

See Commons:Licensing for the copyright policy on Wikimedia Commons, and Commons:Image casebook for some specific examples. Some other Wikimedia projects have different licensing policies. For example, the English Wikipedia allows fair use of sounds and photographs. This is not the case on Wikimedia Commons; "fair use" materials are not acceptable here.
Please make sure that you only upload educational content you have created yourself, those which are out of copyright, or those for which you have the required permission for the work to be used in all the ways described above. Please note that derivative works of copyrighted material are also considered copyrighted. Again, please read through Commons:Licensing, which is quite crucial to understanding how Wikimedia Commons works. Thanks for your contribution, and please do leave me a message if you have further questions.Yours sincerely, Hedwig in Washington (mail?) 02:05, 26 August 2015 (UTC)
Help request[edit]
Hi, neighbour. Greetings from Turkey. I saw you included this image in your "new uploads" file. I understand you have some buttons and experience in Commons. Could you give a short time of your life to upload a better (without the flash and perhaps trimmed) version of this file? I really suck in these things... Thanks in advance and all the best. --E4024 (talk) 08:46, 1 April 2016 (UTC)
- Hello @E4024. Sorry for a late reply. This image was included in my list by a bot (I don't know why). I do not have a better version of this file and unfortunately, I, too, do not understand photo-editing. :-) Cheers, –BruTe Talk 10:35, 10 April 2016 (UTC)

Important message for file movers[edit]
A community discussion has been closed where the consensus was to grant all file movers the suppressredirect
user right. This will allow file movers to not leave behind a redirect when moving files and instead automatically have the original file name deleted. Policy never requires you to suppress the redirect, suppression of redirects is entirely optional.
Possible acceptable uses of this ability:
- To move recently uploaded files with an obvious error in the file name where that error would not be a reasonable redirect. For example: moving "Sheep in a tree.jpg" to "Squirrel in a tree.jpg" when the image does in fact depict a squirrel.
- To perform file name swaps.
- When the original file name contains vandalism. (File renaming criterion #5)
Please note, this ability should be used only in certain circumstances and only if you are absolutely sure that it is not going to break the display of the file on any project. Redirects should never be suppressed if the file is in use on any project. When in doubt, leave a redirect. If you forget to suppress the redirect in case of file name vandalism or you are not fully certain if the original file name is actually vandalism, leave a redirect and tag the redirect for speedy deletion per G2.
The malicious or reckless breaking of file links via the suppressredirect
user right is considered an abuse of the file mover right and is grounds for immediate revocation of that right. This message serves as both a notice that you have this right and as an official warning. Questions regarding this right should be directed to administrators. --Majora (talk) 21:35, 7 November 2019 (UTC)
