Tip: Categorizing images[edit]
Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.
Here's how:
1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:
2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.
-
For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:
-
-
This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".
When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").
Thanks again for your uploads! More information about categorization can be found in Commons:Categories, and don't hesitate to leave a note on the help desk.BotMultichillT 06:05, 23 March 2009 (UTC)

Kategorien[edit]
Hallo.
I think you can manage to minimize the various color balances and expositions of your panorama by using Hugin exposition tool. It won't make your picture FP, but it would be of great benefit to Commons. --S23678 (talk) 06:52, 5 September 2009 (UTC)
re:2010_FIFA_World_Cup_Fans_2.jpg[edit]
Examination of the above named image has called into question the caption used for it at 2010 FIFA World Cup. In particular, the people seem to be made up for, and posing in, a staged photo, rather than being fans celebrating with any sense of spontaneity, and visual evidence of photoshopping means that it is hard to assume that they were at the claimed location. Your comments would be valuable. Kevin McE (talk) 23:16, 29 June 2010 (UTC)
Problem with omul[edit]
Hi. Your photo is entittled Omul Lake Baikal.jpg but the description of this photo is: Thymallus baikalensis Dybowski, 1874. According to my knowledge the omul is the species of the Coregonus genus, whereas Thymallus is other genus not synomised with Coregonus. So, the omul and Thymallus baikalensis are two different animals. Best wishes --Robert Niedźwiedzki (talk) 10:56, 19 September 2010 (UTC) Hi. Thank you very much for the information!!!Octagon (talk) 09:37, 22 September 2010 (UTC)
photo from Kurt Albert[edit]
Could it be the Photos from Kurt are side-inverted? I think the rock is the "Streitberger Schild" near Steitberg with the Castle Neideck in background. Greetings --Alma (talk) 05:27, 1 October 2010 (UTC)
- Yes it is possible, as the original photos were slides taken on a positive film. I will invert them to the flipside. Thank you for the suggestion.Octagon (talk) 09:01, 1 October 2010 (UTC)
Interest in your photo[edit]
I'm impressed with the photo of a weaver bird's nest hanging on a telephone pole which you took. May I have your permission to include it in a children's book?

looking for approval to use photo[edit]
Dear Sir- I am contacting you in regards to your image on wikipedia. I work for a small private label company that makes coffee mugs. We have a customer that is requesting us to design a mug for Oktoberfest and has requested your image.
Größe der Voransicht: 800 × 325 Pixel Version in höherer Auflösung (3.407 × 1.382 Pixel, Dateigröße: 3,05 MB, MIME-Typ: image/jpeg)
Celebrating 200 years of Oktoberfest at the specially built historical section of the Oktoberfest 2010.
The image will be scanned and then graphically altered to look like a sketch. Can you tell me how I can get permission to use this image for this project?
I look forward to hearing back from you. With thanks Heather hleventini@formationbrandsllc.com

Permission of use[edit]
Dr Octagon,
I'm picture researcher in the Museum of natural history of Paris, and we're preparing an exhibition in 2014 about nocturnal animals. I was looking for a picture of social weavers, and I've found yours : //commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Nest_of_the_Sociable_Weaver.jpg
Is it possible to use it for our exhibition ?
Thanks,
Ingrid

Thanks for uploading File:Corona-05.jpg. I notice that the file page either doesn't contain enough information about the license or it contains contradictory information about the license, so the copyright status is unclear.
If you created this file yourself, then you must provide a valid copyright tag. For example, you can tag it with GFDL to release it under the multi-license GFDL plus Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike All-version license or you can tag it with PD-self to release it into the public domain. (See Commons:Copyright tags for the full list of license tags that you can use.) If you did not create the file yourself or if it is a derivative of another work that is possibly subject to copyright protection, then you must specify where you found it (e.g. usually a link to the web page where you got it), you must provide proof that it has a license that is acceptable for Commons (e.g. usually a link to the terms of use for content from that page), and you must add an appropriate license tag. If you did not create the file yourself and the specific source and license information is not available on the web, you must obtain permission through the OTRS system and follow the procedure described there. Note that any unsourced or improperly licensed files will be deleted one week after they have been marked as lacking proper information, as described in criteria for deletion. If you have uploaded other files, please confirm that you have provided the proper information for those files, too. If you have any questions about licenses please ask at Commons:Village pump/Copyright or see our help pages. Thank you. |

Request for permission of use[edit]
Hello Octagon,
we are making a non-commercial short film that deals critically with German colonial history. In the film, archive images are briefly inserted at various points. We would like to use the following photo from you:
File:BlackLivesMatterKoenigsplatz1.jpg
Would you kindly give us permission? That would be very much appreciated. We would of course provide it with an appropriate copyright reference and the film will be published under a CC BY-NC-SA licence.
Please write to: stahl-verena@web.de
Thanks a lot, Verena
