Unisa Council leads the way with 145th anniversary pledges

Members of the Unisa Council were the first to pledge their contributions towards Unisa’s 145th Anniversary Fundraising Campaign, which is starting this week. The pledges were made at a recent Council Meeting.

The university celebrates an exceptional milestone, its 145th anniversary in June, with a variety of celebratory activities organised institution-wide.

Mr Saki Simelane, Chairperson of the Unisa Council, together with Prof Mandla Makhanya, Unisa Principal and Vice-Chancellor and Principal of Unisa, led the process to appeal, inspire and motivate other Unisa staff members, alumni, donors, friends of the university and Unisa community at large to also donate to student bursaries.

“The contributions by Council and Management support Unisa’s awareness of its social responsibility in shaping futures and in so doing continues to light the way for many of our students around the globe,” said Mr Frankie Mojapelo, Deputy Director: Development and Special Projects in the Department of Institutional Advancement. “We are further appealing to all Unisa staff, students and alumni to join in the campaign by considering making donations using our secure online donation platform.  Those who prefer to use alternative methods of payments can visit our website and following the easy instructions.”

Added Mr David Farirai, Director: Unisa Institutional Advancement: “We are also on this occasion remembering what the implementation of fee-free education in the higher education sector means, and where it would place Unisa’s financial sustainability in years to come.”
