Whether preparing teachers for the classroom, developing inclusive education strategies, or innovating in digital learning, we are dedicated to excellence in teaching, research, and community engagement.
The College of Education (CEDU) is renowned locally and internationally for its excellence in teaching, research and community engagement. At CEDU, we prioritise the initial preparation and continuous professional development of educators in critical areas such as Mathematics, Science, Technology, Environmental Education and more, aligning with national priorities. The College of Education focuses on the initial preparation of teachers and continuous professional teacher development. Currently the college is responsible for the initial professional education and training of close to 50% of all teachers in South Africa.
Speaking at the recently held 30th International Council for Distance Education World Conference, Prof Puleng LenkaBula challenged institutions of higher learning to move beyond technocentric models, but to also build ecologies of care that honour diverse knowledge systems, languages and lived realities.
Recently, four leading Unisa researchers were inaugurated as members of the Academy of Science of South Africa and the South African Young Academy of Science for their outstanding scientific contributions designed to benefit society at large.
Having completed the Inhlanyelo Hub Drone Diva Programme, Unisa alumna Happiness Godora is integrating drone technology into classrooms to enhance STEM learning and make it an interactive experience for learners in South Africa.
Delivering his inaugural address, the College of Education's Prof Ramodungoane Tabane stated that early treatment of many childhood disorders can contribute to alleviating social ills like school dropout, drug abuse and crime.
Dr Motswalle Christina Kanyane's PhD journey at Unisa's College of Education was deeply personal, inspired by a shared dream she and her husband once nurtured to both earn their doctoral degrees by the age of 55.

The Office of Graduate Studies and Research (OGS&R) is the nodal point for research and postgraduate studies at the College level. Our success lies in our collective efforts to support research and invest in people and innovative ideas. These include attracting top researchers through our collaborative approach; taking a focused approach to human capital development; driving a transformation agenda that focuses on transforming the cohort of researchers who are research active. The Office is mandated to coordinate, monitor and provide an enabling environment to the researchers in the College, ensure sustainable development of researchers, promote cutting edge innovative, impact-oriented research and centres of excellence to meet the changing needs of society, foster and manage graduate training, provide interventions and actions to improve M&D throughput and the capacity for quality postgraduate supervision.
