Unisa Ranked in World-Wide Academic Achievements

The recent results of the Times Higher Education World University Rankings have given Unisa reason to celebrate improvements in its National and Global Rankings. It is expected that Unisa will continue to rise as it revamps and strengthens its academic and research innovations in the wake of the newly introduced strategic/signature areas, which include a focus on oceanography, marine science, transportation/the automotive industry, digitalisation and ICTs.

The recent 2022 Times Higher Education Impact Rankings demonstrated Unisa’s admirable performance in terms of research contribution towards the five SDGs that the University officially participated in.  These are SDG4- Quality Education, SDG5- Gender Equality, SDG6- Clean Water and Sanitation, SDG7- Affordable and Clean Energy and, lastly, the compulsory SDG17- Partnerships for the Goals. Unisa achieved 67,7% in quality education, 66.4% in gender education and was in the top quartile worldwide. In addition, the University achieved 62.8% in partnership formation and 50.2 for clean water, placing it in the top half, worldwide. A great milestone indeed! There is room for improvement in Clean Energy, as the University scored 51,1%, performing below the median score worldwide.

The SDG17 on Partnerships demonstrates how Unisa has improved in terms of the quality of research output and mainly collaborative and impactful research around the other SDGs, thereby making strategic inroads nationally and internationally, and further expanding Unisa’s footprint.
