International Advisory Committee

The International Advisory Committee was set up in 2013, to advise the TMALI, its Steering Committee and the TMF-UNISA Board with regards to TMALI’s work and assist in promoting TMALI’s activities and programmes.

Members of the TMALI International Advisory Committee

  1. Prof Paul Tiyambe Zeleza
    Prof Zeleza is the Vice Chancellor (President) of the United States International University-Africa. He holds a PhD from Dalhousie University and has written extensively on Africa.

  2. Prof Mahmood Mamdani 
    Prof Mamdani is professor at Colombia University (in United States) and a Director of Makerere Institute for Social Research at Makerere Univesity (in Uganda). He holds a PhD from Harvard University and specializes in the study of African History and Politics. 

  3. Prof Patricia McFadden 
    Prof McFadden is an Extraordinary Visiting Professor of Gender and Women’s Studies Department at the University of the Western Cape in South Africa. She is also a Life Associate and founding member at the Southern African Political Economy Series Trust. She has edited and written various books relating to Gender, Feminism and Africa. 

  4. Dr Funmi Olonisakin (Chairperson)
    Dr Olonisakin is the founding Director of the African Leadership Centre (ALC) and she is the Programme Director for the ALC King’s College London MSc Security, Leadership and Society and the MSc Leadership and Development. She previously worked in the Office of the United Nations Special Representative of the Secretary-General on Children and Armed Conflict as Adviser on Africa. She is trained in Political Science (BSc. Ife, Nigeria) and War Studies (PhD, King’s College London).

  5. Prof Molefi Kete Asante
    Prof Asante is professor and Chair of African American Studies at Temple University, in United States. He is also a visiting professor at Zhejiang University in China. He is also a Professor Extraordinarius at the University of South Africa’s Institute for African Renaissance. He is the Coordinator of Diaspora Intellectuals for the Pan African Scientific Council at the African Union. He is the President of the Molefi Asante Institute for Afrocentric Studies and the international organizer for Afrocentricity International. He holds a PhD from University of California. 

  6. Prof Thandika Mkandawire
    Prof Mkandawire is professor and Chair of African Development at the London School of Economics. He is a former director of the United Nations Research Institute for Social Development. He is also the former director of the Council for Development of Social Science Research in Africa. 

  7. Prof Muna Ndulo
    Prof Ndulo is a professor of Law at Cornell Law School and the Director of the Cornell University’s Institute for African Development. He holds a PhD in Law, Economics and Institutions. He was an assistant professor at the University of Memphis, Cecil C Humphreys School of Law. He is Honorary Professor of Law, Faculty of Law, at the University of Cape Town. 

  8. Prof Adebayo Olukoshi
    Prof Olukoshi is the Director of the UN African Institute for Economic Development and Planning. He holds a PhD in Politics from the University of Leeds. He was a research professor and Director of research and studies at the Nigerian Institute of International Affairs and he was a General Secretary of the Council for Development of Social Science Research in Africa. 

  9. Dr Rachel Mukamunana
    Dr Mukamunana is the Coordinator of the APRM process from APRM Continental Secretariat. She holds a PhD from the University of Pretoria. 

  10. Prof Toyin Falola
    Prof. Falola is the Chair Professor in the Humanities and a Distinguished Teaching Professor at the University of Texas in United States. He has published numerous books and edited many books on Africa. He holds a PhD in History.
