Purpose statement:
The purpose of this qualification is to enable graduates to become academically and professionally qualified to practice in any career which requires competency in visual arts and or multimedia including Software artists. Secondly the qualification is aimed at ensuring that qualifying graduates become highly specialised professionals that have the potential of becoming leading practitioners in the contemporary art world both nationally and internationally. In addition this qualification is intended to equip student artists and practicing artists in the visual arts field with a set of skills and knowledge that provide a point of access to professional training and advanced post graduate qualifications in the visual arts and multimedia. On achieving the qualification, qualified graduates will be able to generate a body of artwork, drawing on their own ideas and research, supported by intensive engagement with a specialist range of media technologies and techniques. Qualified graduates should also be able to set up an exhibition of a body of their own artwork and critically analyse their own practice and the work of other artists drawing on key concepts from art-critical writings. They will also be able to coordinate work on projects involving teams of artists, and plan for the development of their careers as artists based on an assessment of their skills, interests, external constraints and opportunities. Entrepreneurship is developed to empower students to initiate and run their own studios and community projects.
This qualification contains modules with practical components, which will require you to spend time away from your home and responsibilities, to gain the required industry exposure through applying your theoretical understanding in a workplace. You will be expected to complete tasks which will reflect your experience and skills gained while in the workplace. These tasks will be formally assessed and grades awarded.
Please note:
An appropriate NQF 7 qualification from an accredited provider of higher education. A minimum of 60% for the major(s), or for a selected number of NQF 7 modules in the qualification.
Unsuccessful applicants may submit an appeal on the application portal at https://www.unisa.ac.za/sites/corporate/default/Apply-for-admission/Apply-for-admission-to-study:-application-tool and will be required to provide a motivation for special admission.
The motivation must incorporate the following:
* academic motivation offering evidence of your ability to study a postgraduate qualification,
* work experience relevant to the qualification and courses completed since graduating with a Bachelor's degree or Advanced Diploma.
These appeals will only be considered if the enrolment target of the qualification has not been met and/or additional enrolment spaces are available.
Applicants who do not meet the admission requirements as indicated above may apply for admission through recognition of prior learning (RPL) provided they are at least 30 years old with a minimum of five years' current, relevant working and research experience in line with the approved qualification's RPL requirements.
