Message from the Chair of Department

Welcome to the Department of Adult Community and Continuing Education (DACCE)

Dear Students, Colleagues and Partners in Education

It is my pleasure, on behalf of the Department of Adult Community and Continuing Education (DACCE) at the University of South Africa (UNISA), to welcome you to our department.

At DACCE, we are committed to professionalizing Adult and Community Education and Training (ACET) through relevant, innovative and accessible qualifications that respond to the changing needs of communities, workplaces and the broader post-school education and training sector.

Our academic pathways are designed to support entry, professional development and progression in ACET -from foundational and diploma-level study, through advanced and postgraduate qualifications, to research at higher levels. From 2027, the Department will expand its offering with the Diploma in ACET and Postgraduate Diploma in ACET, complementing our Advanced Diploma in ACET. The department also offers Bachelor of Education Honour (Adult Education). These pathways create opportunities for practitioners, educators, lecturers and community development professionals to strengthen their knowledge, professional competence and impact.

We believe that ACET is more than a qualification; it is a profession, a pathway to lifelong learning, and a catalyst for community transformation.

To our students, we encourage you to embrace your studies, draw on your experiences, engage actively with your learning and make full use of the support available to you. To our colleagues and partners, thank you for your commitment to advancing adult and community education and for helping us build meaningful pathways from learning to professional practice and leadership.

Together, we are learning, professionalising, empowering and transforming lives through ACET.

Welcome to DACCE. Your pathway to professional growth and community impact starts here.
