Unisa @ 150: Exciting festival to embrace 4IR in CODeL

Unisa’s College of Human Sciences (CHS) is abuzz with excitement as it is preparing to host the upcoming Teaching and Learning Festival on 12 July 2023, on Microsoft Teams. This prestigious event, themed "Unisa at 150 years: A journey of inclusive 4IR in CODeL", aligns with the celebrations marking the 150th anniversary of the university's establishment. The university is renowned for its comprehensive open, distance and e-Learning (CODeL) model. The festival aims to cast a spotlight on the vital importance of teaching excellence while commemorating this remarkable milestone in Unisa’s history.

With 4IR permeating all aspects of society, it is crucial for Unisa to engage intelligently in this dialogue. Although the "e-" in CODeL defines Unisa's identity, it does not exempt the institution from active participation in shaping the future.

Renowned as a thought leader in all aspects of higher education, CHS embodies the founding principles and attributes of the humanities. By subjecting various phenomena to critical scrutiny, the college keeps the conversation alive and drives its expansion and impact.

Prof Nokuthula Hlabangane, Head of Academic Quality Assurance and Enhancement at CHS, emphasises the significance of exploring the primary questions surrounding our world, its sense, its purpose and the lessons we draw from history. "Moreover," she says, "the festival will delve into how the Fourth Industrial Revolution (4IR) influences our visions of the future."

The Teaching and Learning Festival provides an excellent opportunity for colleagues to share their best practices in teaching and learning. Additionally, the event will feature two distinguished guest speakers: Prof Siphamandla Zondi from the University of Johannesburg and Prof Artwell Nhemachena from the University of Namibia. Their insights and expertise will contribute to the enriching discussions held during the festival.

This acknowledgement showcases the dedication and commitment of Unisa's faculty and staff to providing exceptional educational experiences.

Everybody is invited to join the Teaching and Learning Festival, where colleagues will be celebrated, and the privilege of Unisa's contribution to society will be recognised. Do not miss this opportunity to engage in meaningful discussions and celebrate the remarkable achievements of CHS, and Unisa's 150 years of existence.
