Purpose: Syllabus/Content: Introduction to agriculture and food law The orientation that provides an overview of the legal and policy issues in agriculture and food industries Administrative process and practice in agriculture and food law Study of administrative law and practice in the specialised area of agriculture and food, the law that administers the way food produced, transported, allocated, consumed and discarded. Regulated markets in Agriculture The study will explore the economic regulation of specific to agriculture and food industry including regulation on food safety, labelling and consumer rights. The Right to Food Study an overview of the historical development of the right to food and legal framework that promotes the right to food Global Food Security Survey of the role of law and policy in affecting problems of global food security in the face of increased population, changing diets, environmental pressures and climate change. Legal issues in Agricultural land tenure Overview of the role landownership and use plays in the operation of agriculture and food production, looking at who owns farmland and in what legal structure. Intellectual Property law in Food & Agricultural product Introduction to intellectual property application on agriculture, patent law, trademarks, geographical indication, certification mark, collective marks, copyrights, food recipes as well as copyright on food labelling. Agricultural Labour Law Study of the legal, social and economic issues that arise from farmworkers and the application of labour law including seasonal farmworkers' rights protection.
