The Department of Science and Technology Education at the University of South Africa (UNISA) is recognized as a Centre of Excellence. We are dedicated to advancing teaching, research, and engaged scholarship across disciplines such as Science Education, Education for Sustainable Development, Information Communication Technologies in Education, and Technology Education.
Our innovative curriculum prepares graduates to tackle 21st-century classroom challenges through hands-on learning, critical thinking, and technology integration. Our diverse team includes four NRF-rated researchers across various levels, such as C1, C2, and Y2 ratings, underscoring our commitment to research excellence. We also have four (4) NRF Thuthuka grant holders, emphasizing our dedication to advancing scientific research. Additionally, we are proud to have three (3) NRF Competitive Support for Unrated Researchers (CSUR) grant holders, further contributing to our research leadership.
Key achievements include extensive publications in top-tier journals, the development of unique programs incorporating the latest technologies, and engaged scholarship initiatives that positively impact local schools. Our international collaborations enhance research and student exchange opportunities, while member of our department have received numerous awards for their contributions.
We encourage students and colleagues to participate in outreach and collaboration initiatives, bridging academia with broader society. As we begin a new academic year, we invite everyone to engage actively in department activities, helping us advance science education and make a meaningful impact.
