Students who visit the Unisa Libraries in person need to purchase an electronic student card at a cost of R75.00. This card must be presented to gain admission to the Library. Students have to present their print student cards when they purchase an electronic student card.

In order to search the electronic information resources and the library's catalogue, off-campus users need to: Log into the Library catalogue via https://oasis.unisa.ac.za using your student number and myUnisa password and search the Catalogue or Encore Quick Search to find electronic resources or use the online services. The guidelines document makes recommendations about the hardware and software required to access electronic resources. Please note that the configurations of individual computers, mobile phones and / or Internet browsers may affect the ability to access resources and it is your choice whether you save any recommended changes once you have finished searching.

Yes. Some material may only be consulted in the Library. These include periodicals, archival material and items in special collections, art colour slides, reference works such as encyclopaedias, dictionaries, yearbooks, law reports and any other items as determined by the Library. Photocopies of publications that may not be borrowed are obtainable on request.
If the item requested is available in the library, it will take a minimum of 3 weeks depending on the method of despatch used.
Yes, you can submit your ILL request to: libr-ill@unisa.ac.za, provided the item is not available at Unisa library. This service is limited to Unisa staff and registered Masters’ and Doctoral students.
A 'hold' means that the item requested has been reserved for the person making the request. The request will be processed by the Library staff and the item posted or made available as requested.
A book is recalled when another client needs it and there are no other available copies
Renewals will only be granted if there is no-one on the waiting list. Items on the waiting list (holds) must be returned by the due date. Renewals will not be granted if there is an outstanding account on the user's library record. Postgraduate students are allowed three and other students, two telephonic renewals.

Computers can be used to do literature search (search for books and articles), but not for typing your assignments. Only Master's and Doctoral students can use the research space at the Main campus, Pretoria to type their assignments and research papers. Students who need to do word processing can enquire with the Librarians about such a facility.
Photocopy service is available on level 4 at the main Library on campus and at each Branch library. The cost of photocopying is:
Research space is allocated for Master's and Doctoral students to do research at the main campus. Study carrels are available for use by M and D students on levels 5 to 8 at the Main library. Study carrels are booked at the lending desk of the Main Library.

You should use the library's e-book database collections to find e-books on your topic. Each database has its own specific format so it is recommended that you use the online help screens or instruction pages for each database. Remember that the library may not necessarily have access to all the titles held by the database, but this will be indicated.
