Guest speaker, Portia Mkhabela, the Market Head of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) Southern Africa, commended Unisa for its resilience over 30 years of constitutional democracy and highlighted the alignment in values between the Association of ACCA and Unisa. Mkhabela discussed the evolving role of educators, stressing the need for them to adapt to changes and understand the socio-economic challenges students face. She urged academics to leverage digital teaching opportunities, engage with the industry and profession, and update their skills continuously to ensure relevant content delivery. She underscored the importance of collaboration between Unisa and professional bodies like the ACCA to support students' academic and professional goals. She noted that Unisa students, with their independent nature, align well with the ACCA's values. The accreditation of Unisa's programmes by the ACCA, which recently received accreditation from the Independent Regulatory Board of Auditors (IRBA), marks a significant milestone in making the auditing profession more accessible.
Dr Moses Hlongoane, the Executive Dean of CAS, congratulated staff members who were nominated for this year's Excellence in Teaching and Learning Festival Awards, praising their dedication and commitment. He also took the opportunity to acknowledge the timely sign-off and release of the May/June results, which enabled students to start the academic year on schedule. He also expressed appreciation for the academic efforts in preparing students for the Initial Test of Competence (ITC). Hlongoane lauded the nominees for their hard work in preparing their portfolios and accepting the nominations. He remarked: "I applaud you for accepting the nomination and accepting to represent the college at the institutional level. This is a true reflection of your commitment to excellence in education."
