Unisa KZN SBL alumni chapter appoints Dr Mano Muthusamy as chairperson

With his extensive background in banking, risk management and mentorship, Dr Mano Muthusamy stands as a paragon of such leadership. As he takes up the position of Chairperson of the Unisa Graduate School of Business Leadership (SBL) Alumni Chapter in KwaZulu-Natal, he brings more than just experience to the table.

Muthusamy’s academic and professional journey is nothing short of inspiring. With a Doctorate of Business Leadership (DBL), an MBA and a plethora of other qualifications, he has mastered the art of financial management and risk assessment. His 30+ years in the banking sector, encompassing both commercial and retail banking and development finance, have equipped him with unparalleled expertise.

Muthusamy has held several significant roles throughout his career, contributing to his vast expertise in the fields of banking, risk management, and mentorship. Here are some of the roles he has held:

  • Group Chief Risk Officer: Responsible for overseeing enterprise-wide risk-management strategies and activities. 
  • Acting Business Finance Executive: Acting as an executive responsible for business finance and business support, demonstrating his versatility and leadership in financial management.
  • Head of Credit Risk: Contributing his expertise to the management of credit risk, both in the banking and development finance environments.

These roles, along with his professional memberships and academic achievements, underscore Muthusamy’s comprehensive understanding of risk and ability to apply knowledge effectively across different sectors. His leadership positions reflect his commitment to fostering growth and sustainability in the business community.

The role of the chairperson of the SBL KwaZulu-Natal Chapter is crucial. It is a position that demands a deep understanding of business principles and the ability to foster a network of successful, ethical and sustainable Small, Medium, and Micro Enterprises (SMMEs). Muthusamy’s doctoral thesis on mentorship strategies in a business incubator setting is a testament to his commitment to nurturing emerging businesses.
