As part of its vision to become the African university shaping futures in the service of humanity, the University of South Africa (Unisa) recently had the distinct honour of hosting a delegation from the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC).
The delegation was led by GTEC Deputy Director-General, Prof Augustine Ocloo, accompanied by Dr Evans Takyi Ankomah-Asare, the GTEC Focal Person. This visit was expertly coordinated by the Department of Higher Education and Training (DHET): Africa and Middle East Directorate, under the leadership of Seipelo Kgosiejang.
The primary purpose of GTEC’s visit was to gain insights into Unisa’s successful practices, particularly regarding the university's quality assurance standards and the mechanisms in place to support postdoctoral students. By examining these aspects, GTEC sought to learn from Unisa's experiences and strategies, which are critical in enhancing educational quality within its own framework.
Unisa's delegation was led by Prof Lumkile Lalendle, Executive Director of Planning and Quality Assurance, who provided a comprehensive presentation on the university's quality assurance processes. This was complemented by presentations from Prof Gezani Baloyi, who focused on the support systems available to postdoctoral students, and Prof Memme Makua, who shared insights on the master’s and doctoral student walk, from application to assessment. Together, these discussions emphasised Unisa's capabilities to shape futures and serve humanity through quality education and robust support systems.
